What market? The gold market's bottom hasn't fallen out, and to a pretty wealthy gold company (there are a few fair) it's a very valuable name. If you referring to the domains "bottom" then refer to the first sentence again.

Good Luck with the auction.

A domain is worth what a buyer is prepared to pay for it, the value of the domain can only rise when there is competition for a domain, a high value domain will have a high return on investment.

So whoever has an interest in gold.co.uk are either going to be a wealthy individual who wants the domain for kudos, or a company that's main line of business is involved with gold. A website that can almost guarantee a number 1 UK position on search engines for very little investment that will have the possibility of generating millions of pounds worth of sales is naturally going to be worth more than £20k.

And what is this new domain system you speak? That's like inferring the postcode system is going to be scrapped.

The gold market is thriving at the moment, hell a day doesn't pass without at least one sighting. These gold companies are flush with cash and are all competing viciously, if they believe gold.co.uk will increase their strength in the market they will kill for it.

As for the change you speak of, I am assuming you mean the 'everyone gets there own tld' change. Except for the fact it can cost way over $400,000 to make one, that google probably wont rank them that highly initially and .co.uk's .com's etc will continue to hold market strength.

Lets start a new thread for this debate ?

Gold.co.uk is a great domain, its the uk equivalent for gold companies as baby.com was to johnson best of luck.

I have moved all your posts to a generic discussion forum, please do not post your thoughts and appraisals of a domains worth in the Sales sections.

Please also note we do not allow appraisal threads to be started by someone who does not own that domain.

Many thanks

Admin

Meet the original owner of gold.co.uk

He found the domain name around 1850 in a Californian river. People laughed at him because they were all searching for the gold.com's and .net's!

Can't wait to see what this one makes. All the best with it.

I'd gladly give you my 20 grand ....the general underlying commodity trends say it all really..

Although if you go back to the mid-70s Gold hit its historical high $2000, before trading in the low hundreds range for the next 20 years. See http://goldprice.org/inflation-adjusted-gold-price.html. The fast increasing price is a very recent trend since the financial crisis.

Having said that, great domain so let's hope it gets a great price and lots of publicity.

Stephen.

Yes, I agree Stephen. And these things have a habit of correcting themselves, as I've learnt to my cost !

I think I was just pointing out that 20k is ridiculous, given that gold is so hot at the moment.

Selling that name at this point in time looks very nice indeed
