![]() | Famous People Domain Names
Hello all. I've read a few topics on here about this and have over the past few weeks caught a couple of good famous peoples names.. I've got no plans to annoy anyone or try to set up fan sites or make money and will hand them over when they come knocking, infact all I've put on the page is to email me... I might even get a conversation with a couple of them! (for the sake of a fiver!) If you want to know what I got then Pm me I reckon this is a good way of domainers becoming good! P.S there is one name I got which I will never give away and will point to wiki so the whole world know what this person was capable of. |

This is how I got into domaining. I registered rickygervais.com and .co.uk and did some superb trade on DVDs and books, enough to make your eyes pop out. His management team came calling after 18months or so, and as part of the deal I asked for all sorts, from autographs to a walk in park on 'The Office' I sold for a fairly low amount but it opened my eyes as to what could be achieved. I now own a couple of names myself and have developed and sold a few others in the past to fellow domainers for four figures. I think it's an effective and harmless way of honing hour web design skills, if like Mel, you didn't have any to begin with, as long as you understand you can't do anything naughty and will eventually, probably, hand it over. Would love to hear what you have Mally? |

When I first started to I registered a few, suppose like most on here. I've had two, one the guy paid me for on sedo at the buy now price of Ģ250. When I relised who it was buying it. I told sedo to give him the money back and I'll transfer it for free. I was a more experienced domainer at this point, so knew a bit more about what was good and not so good. Sedo kept sending me emails, "there is no need to cancel it, he has already paid". After 3-4 emails they got the message that it wasn't about the money, they agreed to refund the guy. Then they sent him an email "We have found out that the seller has been selling domain names that are trademarked and not his to sell, we can not allow this on the sedo system and decided we can not allow this transaction to proceed. So we have decided to cancel it and return your money." WTF........... ![]() But yep most of them you can have a conversation with and they ain't too bad in the end.

![]() | Yep, wasn't too happy mate. It was the fact they tried to talk me out of giving the guy is cash back. Then trying to make me out to be the bad guy to the buyer. Was the last time I used them for anything.

The other was one of thew dragons from Dragon's Den, but all that turned out in the end. They offered Ģ500, but never accepted it and transferred it for free. He was a good guy and sent me a couple of emails with some free business advice. So you often can get some good advice of chats with them. I must have been the worst cybersquatter in history though, on a financial front anyway.

I recently regged johnnycash -org-uk and had some plans to develop it into some sort of fan community/forum but never got round it, it currently has a website on it but is nowhere near to what I had in mind. The name does get 165k exacts from the top of my head |

I watched eminem.tv go for a few dollars in a pre-release auction a few days ago - would be worth a fortune in affiliate links but I figured I didn't need some aggressive US lawyer trying to sue me so let it go by the wayside (Apologies in advance to anyone offended by the non uk domain reference - just particularly relevant to this thread) |

![]() | Curious on the above statement? Do you mean in terms of your business - or a smarter way to converse with the rich and famous? I do own one celebrity name (on a .co.uk) . She was a very (very) attractive pin up from the 70s. She has her own website (under her name but different extension), fanclub and makes regular appearances. Again wasn't looking to profit but like Lee's idea of a bit of bartering! |
