![]() | Egypt to change name? Domain Opportunity?
It looks as though there is a chance (don't know the real likelyhood) that Egypt will be renamed Masr - some of the people seem to want it at least (and that is the Egyptian name so I can't see it being anything else). Could be that a few speculative registrations could be worthwhile. I concentrate on the UK so will only be buying the one I have already bought (Masr.biz - which is a bit poor apparently given the low value of .biz names). Just thought some of you might want to look at it. Last edited by inbound; 11-02-2011 at 11:58:28 PM. |

I'm pretty sure its "Misr"? From wikipedia: # Misr—the romanized Arabic name for the country of Egypt # .misr or مصر. the internationalized domain name of Egypt

| Member | Well - it depends on point of view. Here are some examples of countries changing their names (in 70's): Ceylon is now Sri Lanka, East Pakistan is now Bangladesh, Persia is now Iran, Rhodesia is now Zimbabwe, |

A couple of points: Masr seems to be the correct version (having consulted an Egyptian), even the page on Wikipedia about the IDN states Masr (although we know that does not mean it's correct - also try masr in the search and misr, which one forwards to Egypt?) Also, in regards to the likelyhood: It's not very likely, but these things do happen - especially when citizens are not happy with the name in use. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geograp...ming#Countries |

There is no chance it'll happen, it would fuck the song up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lc5jjHhD9BY |
