High CPC -v- Low Exact Searches

What's the general consensus of opinion when a domain is FTR with a High Approx. CPC, but low amount of Google exacts?

Do you go for the domain personally or pass it by?

I regged a domain with 720 exacts last night.

Only reason why I did it was that it has great affiliate commissions and low competition.

I have stopped looking at CPC but rather look at competition, product value and commission levels.

After being kicked out of Adsense twice without a reason I have given up on it, rather have one good affiliate sale than ten 20p Adsense clicks.

For me personally, a couple of factors I like to look investigate are:

Search for (including quotes):
"keyword term"

Search for (including quotes):
allintitle:"keyword term"

Look at the number and kind of results that are returned, whilst also spending a little time researching the websites/companies promoting these terms.

If the number(s) are of a reasonable ammount, you can assume that these keywords are targetted terms and (should) receive traffic.

If the product/service value = reasonable commissions, then it goes into my list of potential domain investments.

Hope this helps!

Interesting insights.

What's the highest CPC that anyone has personally seen out of interest?

Sorry for the slight hijack, but where do you find the CPC? It seems to vary depending on what you set the daily spend at?

Around £26, think it was one posted on here. There's an infographic floating around with most expensive keywords but it's in $ so not sure how relevant.

Thanks all.

I've just registered an experiment on .co.uk, the term has an Approx. CPC of £61.53.

- Only has 110 Monthly Exacts at this moment in time, so will see what happens.

shane8960 is on a distinguished road

For me it depends on a few things:

Extension? If its a .co.uk, im more likely to reg it than if its an org.uk - Im NOW far more strict on myself when it comes to buying org.uk.

Related Keywords? For example, if the domain is "BurglarAlarms.co.uk", how many searches do terms such as "Burglar Alarm", "Intruder Alarm" and "Intruder Alarms" get as you may be able to rank for them as well.

Product value/commission rate? I have certain domains which are ticking away selling a few products now and again earning a couple of quid per sale. I also have a few sites which make a handful of sales per year - however when they do its high £xx commission. If there is no obvious affiliate program, are there any obvious end users?

AdWord Bidders? If there are no bidders, its probably not a converting keyword.

Also depends with what sort of return you are happy with. If I can spend £7 on a domain, an hour on putting a site together and a couple of hours on link building and then get a site which will make me a couple of quid per week, Im happy. After the two years it would have made around £200 (assuming £2 per week), which would be enough to cover the time I put into it. I can then either drop it, renew it or flip it. Others on here wouldnt be willing to do the work for the same return though.

I'm starting to look more at the "competition" level in the GKW tool, as if you take a FTR domain and want it to start ranking well in Google for it's KW term, you are going to struggle with "high" competition terms if you are building the site from scratch or parking it.

Part of your buying strategy needs to be what content do you have to fit the particular domain.

I may have mistaken what you said, but with regards to the "competition" column in the GKW tool, ideally you want the competition to be high, don't you?

At least this way you know the keyword is a targetted term and that if you are building an adsense based site, there will be plenty of ad's to display, which will in turn create a greater chance of someone clicking an ad relevant to them?
