Yesterday I was doing a bit of research on keywords strings relating to a successful European travel related website I own and its associated niches.

Using estibot I found a longtail (3 words) that was great for adsense with many searches and high paying words. When I checked, I never thought anything would be available, the exact match was there in the .eu extension.

I registered it because I thought it was worth the punt due to my experience in this niche.

So do you think .eu domains are any good for this type of project?

Keyword rich domains can be developed into sites which can generate traffic from Google. If you are prepared to develop then they are probably worth a punt, as you say.

Just don't expect much (any) type in traffic.

I was interested in a .eu domain but smthing put me off, I think I read about them not being popular at the time, wish i had brought it now though.

If your target audience will be internet users who know about the .eu extension that would be helpful. After you work and get some ranking you want people to have some built in trust of your domain.
