Forum Changes - Thoughts?

Hola,

After a few discussions with some users one idea that keeps cropping up is splitting the domain for sale forums to enable sorting the chaff. Currently the setup of the sales forums are:

- UK Domains For Sale
- Top Level Domain Names For Sale
- EU Domains for sale
- Developed Websites for sale

I propose:

- £500+ (or $1000+) Domains for Sale
- Other .UK Domains For Sale
- Other Domains For Sale (.Com .Mobi .EU etc)
- Developed Websites For Sale

My reasoning for this is it will allow the 'lower' domains to be listed seperately (or when a on forum auction takes place a thread can be moved) to enable top names to stand out better, likewise this will allow sub 500 quid names to be under a 'bargain' area.

Obviously this will not stop lex style £50,000 bargains being posted, however it ought to act as a decent filter to seperate the high and low end market.

The .EU forum has been binned and grouped in with 'other domains' such as .mobi etc as I do not believe there is enough volume on the forum.

I would be interested to know peoples thoughts

Cheers,
Rob.

Thanks Rob, I am always open to suggestions for improvements....what do other people think?

Another issue is people listing lots of names or single names, maybe the lists and singles should be split too?

I think lists are fine as is, if there are any real good one's they could be posted in the premium forum separately, I like the idea of forum for larger priced domains.

It may be a good idea to have a 'links to external sales/auctions' section, there is an increasing number of 'this is for sale at sedo, click here' type posts.

People are lazy aint they, not only are they tight, they want to have the forum split again and again, do an auction forum as well, a priced up forum, a make offer forum but domains can only be posted once every week or something like that. Also enable so no reply or posts are closed after a certain duration so threads don't come back after a year.

I need to get ready.

I agree with Rob that the for sale section needs re-organising and this approach does seem like a good idea. A few suggestions though:

There is no forum section for CC domains other than .uk in the for sale section so I think the sections should be as follows:

- Country Code Domains - .UK ONLY (Split into sections as per Robs suggestion)
- Country Code Domains - All countries except United Kingdom
- Top Level Domains (All Extensions)
- Developed Websites

Notice the change in language for the forum title's - very few people read the description so in the interests of getting the correct information in the correct places the section titles need to be very clear.

The 'Top Level Domains' section has almost become a for sale section - this can be dissolved into other sections.

The 'General and Domain News' I think should be at the top of the site.

The 'Making Money' & 'Website Design and Promotion' should be merged together so that more people take notice and duplicate information is avoided.

Thats my 2 pence.

Rich

How about:-

Domains wanted - No budget specified
Domains wanted - Budget specified

?

That would save the need for just about every "Wanted" thread to have a "Budget?" question posted to it by someone (including me) - we can ignore the forum which contains the "Wanted" ads from people unwilling to talk budgets

I was going to suggest that however I have recently heard of one sale occurring via a lurker signing up specifically to buy the domains.

I agree with Rob. This forum definitely needs a premium domain section, say a minimum value of £1000, just really as a means to seperate the good domains from the crap ones (and most are crap). As already stated, that won't stop the dreamers from posting stupid prices but it should at least make the forum easier to use.
