Guys this site is the best one because of the rules, I think everyone is in aggreement with the rules. It's just the way they are enforced a little. Maybe if it is a sales threadthat has just broke the rules, possible lock the thread and say why it was locked, and if need be, edit the domains that are for sale out of it, but leave the thread "live". Then everyone can look at the thread and know that rules are being enforced. Otherwise if the thread is just deleted, people don't see the rules being enforced. All that happens is that one person gets peeved off. If someone keeps doing it, then time to take action. But members and mods should be able to to distinguish between guys who are genuine on here and those like "Linda / George" who pasted Visacards dot co dot uk all over the place. It is a fine line between being too strict and letting the site turn into a free for all, and the mods are doing a good job. Just a tiny bit of slack on this issue would work better. and other long standing members tend to moan about spammers, who post the same sort of tosh and post 5+ seperate posts per day every day.. thats not the same thing as were talking about today! i know being an admin / mod can be a pain, but there is no need to take it out on the good long standing members that make this forum what it is.. now is there? i look forward to new more flexible rules

In my opinion, everybody sticks to the same set of rules and the Mods and Admin enforce the rules as and when they are broken. | |

If the current guidelines are correct with one sales thread every 12 hours max, then clearly nothing has been breached here. Moderators/Admin are human though and sometimes make mistakes inadvertently and perhaps this is just an accidental oversight and lack of consistency which I'm sure will be addressed by the Admin. Slightly off the beaten track of this topic but related; I think perhaps part of the problem may lay with some confusion and misunderstanding of the forum guidelines as there does seem to be several 'sticky' posts here and there from different dates (e.g. in the UK Sales section), which have been added to over time. It can be confusing for new members in particular on where, how, how often to post and when/if they can bump, etc, etc. Perhaps if the rules/guidelines were revised and updated with clear, explicit expectations and what is/isn't acceptable, then this would make it easier in itself too. The forum guidelines could be centrally located (e.g. within the forum FAQ as a separate section) and sticky posts in relevant areas could serve as a summary reminder here and there with relevant extracts (or links to) of the guidelines on what is expected from members. I think most regular members here who respect and regularly use AD would be mortified if they accidentally broke forum guidelines, but if they are not understood or communicated effectively, then this is understandable really. I think we also need to be sympathetic and remember that there have been some new additions to the Moderating team here lately and Moderators will all have a different take and often subjective view on how to enforce guidelines - I don't want to sound patronising but forum moderators too need to understand and consistently apply a fair, clear set of guidelines to all members without favouritism. I think AD is a fabulous forum and an extremely friendly community with a lot of freely given, professional advice and this is just a little bump in the development road.

what ever rules people decide on though, as long as we treat each others like adults with the way we enforce them, everyone should remain happy. I just felt the auto deletion of a thread without explanation was a bit harsh for existing members. Like I said earlier, even if the entire content of the thread was deleted and the only text was from a mod just saying why it was deleted. That is far better than just binning it. Something like " thread deleted for not including url in title" everyone knows why, and can see the rules being enforced. A much more pragmatic and less punitive way of running the site. If the same person keeps doing it them we take them outside and stone them. I mean imagine if nominet just deleted one of your domain names without reason and just said read the rules. We wouldn't be over the moon about it, on that point that might be what 123-reg are upto. |

I was asked to have more moderators here to tighten things a couple weeks ago, so damned if I do, damned if I don't. I am in the process of writing a forum guide that is easier to follow than sticky posts all over. I hope this makes things easier for everyone. |
