Are they your rules or vBulletins rules, seems pretty strict to me especially the last one.

These are our rules.

We recently had a case of someone joining the forum, adding links to their own website in their signature and then responding to every post with "thanks" purely as a means to promote thier own site (they even told us they were doing it to help their Google ranking!).

These rules are to prevent such behaviour and to improve the quality of the posts on the site.

If someone is joining our community for genuine reasons then 25 posts does not take that long to achieve.

I run a music forum - and have been involved in others - admin's criteria represent normal practice, both protecting forum user's interests by ensuring the forum doesn't fill up with spam and also his own by making sure that people don't post merely to steal forum users.

Running a good forum is extremely hard work. This is an excellent forum.

Stephen.

To be honest its nice to come along to a forum and not be bombarded with people Signitures that include huge animated gifs and annoying animated avators, which for me make it harder to read people's posts.

Our thoughts exactly, you can lose half your screen with signatures that detract from being able to take in the forum content.

In the most part, I'd agree with those, but I'm not sure that the logic with the last one will work.

If you need to have posted 25 times to show your signature, that just encourages people to post more, even if the posts are pointless?

I've been a member since August, but have only posted about 12 or 13 times. However, I'd like to think that 100% of my posts have been worthwhile. Other people have joined, posted lots in a few weeks, then disappeared.

Surely it is quality, not quantity you are after?!?

Side links to newest post from the index don't work, they re-direct back to the index and not to the post.

I think it has something to do with the HTML re-write your using.
