Is it me? But the word exclusive does make my flesh crawl. The inference that you are excluding people isn't nice.

I can understand the need to get some income from this forum, but surely the value of the forum is the contributors, not the hosting and bandwidth. I would imagine that the publicity from running this forum, far outweighs the cost to Acorn Domains.

On balance I feel that I contribute more than I take, so don't feel inclined to pay for that.

The way I see it, yes an exclusive area is a good idea but only for a very popular forum like *******.com (statistics below) who have sufficient members to make it worth it.

Threads: 124,048
Posts: 713,819
Exclusive Members: 500
Platinum Member: 2,173
Gold Members: 5,298
Bronze Members: 15,989
Members: 24,264

Acorndomains with only 1200 members is far too few to even contemplate an exclusive area. Plus why would anyone want to sell domains exclusively to only a few members when they really want to reach everyone.

FCdomains is quite right (as always) when he says the value of Acorndomains is it's members, that must not be forgotten.

IMO you should start an exclusive area only when you reach something like 10,000 members.

What I find remarkably odd is the inference that you can
Quote:
influence Sedo products and services
There is also the appearance that you maybe slipping deeper into bed with sedo (Metaphorically speaking).

Is that good for the forum?

Does it also mean that Sedo may not answer question from the lesser mortals in other parts of the forum?

Two of the other sections in their present form appear nonsensical..

Why would a domain reseller want to exclude participants from potential sale?

Are promotions exclusive to acorndomains?

General discussion is the only part that could make any sense, then again, many areas already been covered in previous discussions, or those that have not in any depth are techologically advanced and you require significant knowledge... Who’s going to answer them if they are company specific? Do the companies pay fees i.e. Sedo? Namedrive? Nominet?

Don't get me wrong, I understand the need for revenue generators. Would it not have been easier, given the number of forum participants and the growth rate, to tier membership?

At the moment, as with FC Domains I do not feel inclined to contribute

I just can't see the added value in this at all...?? It just stinks of snobbery…

you can see the sense in the bigger forums doing this.. ******* springs to mind.. with over 24,000 members... it can easily justify a membership scheme.. but some day’s acorn gets only a dozen or so posts..??

Forums will include:
Exclusive Club -
stinks of snobbery.. shunning the very members who developed this community into what it is

Exclusive Domain Marketplace -
traders will still post uk sales in the free area of the forum..?? is someone selling hisdomain.co.uk just going to post it for sale to exclusive members..?? i doubt it...

Exclusive Promotions and Special Offers -
anything specific...?? ******* has quite a list of goodies

Sedo Exclusive -
Does... it really deserve its own exclusive forum.. i've always found sedo to be receptive to any general forum questions & support.. is acorn on the board at sedo now.. "influencing Sedo products and services"

I see the value, since the Exclusive forum won't be spidered. That's a big deal for some of the high-value domains where you may not (ever) want a reference to a potential sale to be "public".

Here's the error message I get (I've tried twice now)

Ed

I do see your point. That suggests there are or is likely to be sales of that nature on this forum...

Worth the 100-120 fee? not yet

is that worth £100 a year to you..? If they can stop the bots spidering on the exclusive forum.. why not do it as a matter of course on the main uk sales forum..??

Since acorn is doing ok in terms of seo & SE position now, it would make sense to sort this.. admin?

admin has disabled reputation

We knew this wouldn't be for everyone, which is why it is entirely optional and does not take anything away from existing forums.

******* you need some sort of membership to post anything, we do not intend to follow this model, the major part of the forum is all still free.

Spiders can stopped with robots.txt and .htaccess file.
