Dear Members, I have rewritten the forum WHOIS lookup tool to use Nominet's WHOIS2 system, which in theory means it shouldn't get blocked. You can see it here Please try it out but I would request people do not abuse this tool as I'm not sure what load it puts on the server if everyone is pumping thousands of names thorugh it all day long It will give you the status of the domain, i.e. Registered, being renewed, suspended, etc. Let me know if it works OK. Thanks Admin Last edited by admin; 15-02-2009 at 01:46:17 AM. |

Doesn't seem to be working. I tried a test list and every single domain showed as "available" including many that I know are registered. Perhaps it doesn't cope with pre-Nominet names? Added: tested some regular domains and got the same result.

Yeah there is a limit to the total look ups in 1 day, which I believe to be similar to that of the dac. I wasnt able to pin a number down. Oh and each person is also limited to 1000 too, once they go over 1000 then all show available So make sure you pass the IP on

I think it's 200,000 but as Skinner suggests, pass the requestor's IP on or people will take the Michael. Not sure how that's done but maybe you could bind it? I'll have a go and stick whois2 on my own site. Edit: "The maximum query rate is 100 queries per second with a maximum of 100,000 queries per rolling 24 hours." Thanks, so it's: The maximum query rate is 100 queries per second with a maximum of 100,000 queries per rolling 24 hours I wonder why it works sometimes but not others, I doubt it's exceeding 100,000 queries day but since I don't log it's use it's hard to say. Anyone know how to add a query number log (not the actual names queried but how many queries are sent per day). |

Is it possible to have a column showing the "Registration status", rather than having to click through for every domain?
