Post Acorn Auctions

Dear AD members,

I have been looking at the auctions running on Acorn Domains and have felt for a while that the usability and success of those here was a bit limited.

I have tried all the know vBulletin mods for auctions and the one I have now has gone end of life even though I paid for it. That is twice now.

So I decided to set-up AcornAuctions.co.uk to sit alongside AcornDomains.co.uk

This is a fully-fledged auction solution with way too many features to list in a post but it goes far beyond what I could provide within the forum.

The site is just about up and running and I added some of my domains there for testing etc. so go have a look.

After much discussion on here, I have also decided to charge for use of Acorn Auctions. There is a £10 per year Seller membership fee. This is to promote bona-fide sellers only and covers my checking and validation of new members.

There is also a 7.5% commission on successful sales. This is less than the major sites out there but I do want to generate enough revenues to put straight back into advertising and promoting the site outside of this forum, using Adwords and national press for example.

Large domain portfolio holders will be pleased to know that there is a Bulk listing tool (see the "Bulk" option in your control panel after registering).

This allows you to create CSV (Excel) files to import large lists of names without having to enter everything in the site. It also allows you to remotely manage and update your auctions, even if you only have a few! This is a major feature I was looking to provide.

Another feature is the automatic relisting. I have set it so that auctions can run for a maximum of 2 weeks (it's unrealistic to run auctions over months), but there is an easy way to relist domains that dont sell for another 2 weeks using the site. Domain Ads can be relisted up to 15 times.

I have decided to waive the £10 sign up fee for the first year for any existing forum members with either an Exclusive Account, Senior Status or a positive Domain Trader score. Please contact me by PM for a Voucher Code to enter during sign up to get the free discount.

I intend to leave the auctions on the forum for the moment but will review this if the new platform proves to be successful.

I welcome all feedback.

Best regards

Admin

PS. The site will only sell .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk domains

N1 Admin I wish you success!

I think you need to sort the auction layout out though - take the lead from DL & sedo might not like it but is cleaner.

This site acts as the window for sellers to conduct auctions and for bidders to bid on sellers' auctions. We are not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. As a result, we have no control over the quality, safety or legality of the items listed the truth or accuracy of the listings, the ability of sellers to sell items or the ability of buyers to buy items. We cannot and do not control whether or not sellers will complete the sale of items they offer or buyers will complete the purchases of items they have bid on.

Ideally nail the terms down abit more so there is some comeback for failing to complete / idiots / scammers etc.

domainlore has a decent system in place, but still is not perfect.

More scammers than ever - newbies and oldies around - and people need to take a lead and stop putting up with the crap that goes on.

just tooo cluttered - i'd just prefer a simple, clean layout of the actual domains on auction - like DL or sedo.

leeds1 will become famous soon enough

good job admin

I would perhaps also add at the top

- recently added
- complete list

Also as others have said other sites listings are easier to understand. I like flippa as a design/ layout and domainlore is easy to understand.

Will you also have a websites auction/ for sale site/ area ?

Looks great! Hope this really takes off. It's just what UK domainers need.

Once established it should mean a lot more eyes looking at the names, than we get here on the forum. Hopefully some of them will be end users too - not just our tight fisted little clique of domainers. That should help boost sale prices!

I think your commission rate is very reasonable. One question, will it be possible to set Buy It Now prices?

Good luck with it Admin.
