Member Reps - Again

I know we have touched on this subject on a couple of occasions - but it seems to me to have become a pretty worthless measure as of late.

Our new member Aiden seeems a nice guy but "reputation beyond repute" in a blink of an eye and a self confessed new entrant to domains. Surely at least a little history would give some credence to the scoring system.

Of course those that have been around the block do know to ignore it as any kind of definitive measure - but as new members seem to be joining on a daily basis I do hope they equally recognise it as the 'whim measure' it seems to have become.

They way I see it is that lots of newbies come,post 2 appraisals based on Estibot,give attitude to established members and are never seen again.

Aiden as been polite and listened to what as been said to him.

All you've got to do is a simple working out,the guy as good rep but only recently joined and has no trader rating so must be a newbie who is really trying,whereas you could have somebody else who as good rep and been a member for years and got lots of trades.

I think the bar does go up too quickly but add it with other factors and you can tell what a person is like

Not wishing to come across as grumpy (because my neighbours kept me up all night), but I think politeness should be expected ... not rewarded. And if members don't listen to good advice, it's their own loss.

Indeed.

There's one or two old hands that I know of that make infrequent posts here at Acorn but, from my own personal perspective have a solid history. You know the type - 60 posts in 3 years = 2 green lights.

It's the posts that add "rep for comments" that seem slightly eschew - Don't know about most members' but I'm treating "all red reps" as carrying something contagious - which is probably just as unfounded

As previously discussed, rep weighting is adjustable by admin. I definitely think it needs attention.

The rep system is as it was installed when I first used VB many years ago but I'm listening to what you are saying. From what I know the rep is weighted by who is giving the rep so if I gave it (which i never do), someone would go from zero to hero in a click.

I'll give it a review.
