Acorn Auctions VAT

I was just creating an auction and spotted this:

Quote:
VAT Registered (VAT at 20% will be added to the auction sale price):
Might be worth making VAT part of the sale price like sedo, domain lore etc.

That makes less sense. If the buyer's in the EU and has a tax ID, or is outside the EU, VAT is not applicable.

That's great if your a buyer in the EU and VAT is not applicable however, as a buyer from the UK who isn't VAT registered I wouldn't be happy about VAT on top of an auction price when it's not the norm.

I presume you meant "wouldn't be happy"?

Actually VAT on top of the auction price is the norm in offline auctions. It's just online it seems to be "in the price" for some reason (excluding actual auction houses).

Personally I think it should be a seperate element as like Edwin mentions, it doesn't always apply.

Having said that I understand where you're coming from as it can be easily forgotten when it's seperate and you're bidding on something only to remember at the end it just cost you 20% more then you thought...

Sorry for late reply. Just spotted this thread again.

I did mean "wouldn't" - I also think every person who isn't VAT registered would begrudge paying it on a final auction price.

DomainLore and Sedo (Both leading .uk domain auction platforms) both have an end price to include VAT if applicable. IMO it would make sense for acorn to follow suit.
