I need some help choosing a tablet, I am a quite techy person, well im a IT Technician so need to be but I have never owned a tablet yet,

I just want one so quick browsing and emails etc as it sometime a pain on the galaxy s2,

I hate apple so dont even suggest them lol but I have been looking and im being abit tight about it so have thought of these 2 so far, the motorola xoom 32gb £279 or the galaxy 8.9 hd at the same price, just wonder if anyone has got one of these or used either of these are wish to tell me which one is good

Im swinging towards the galaxy as i already have the phone, do they have any sort of pairing with eachother?

    Cheers

I have heard nothing good about the playbook, Im guessing thats why its cheap as its just rubbish
plus i really want something andriod as I still think its the best.

Hense the 2 I have picked so far, I have seen alot of app and that on the andriod market for web developers, like html editors and stuff, I have a 10hr flight coming up soon so I want to take it away with me, could do abit of coding on it.

Both of the models you have mentioned should do you fine for general browsing email but at that price iPad2 is really the best option this is coming from someone who has a major dislike of apple myself.
Looking at cheaper options It’s a balancing act I’ve tried a couple of the budget £100 androids most were ok but the screens were pants compared to my nephews ipad.
So I got shut of them on eBay and picked up a HP Touchpad on their and loaded CM9 Android port on it which is easy if you’re a bit techie.
It still alpha stage and thing like the camera don’t work but most other android stuff runs fine. WI-FI occasionally flaky but if you get caught in a Jam you can always quickly reboot into the original webOS software as its dual boot.
So for around a £150 quid you can get a tablet as powerful as an ipad2 spec wise a screen equally as good the only downside is lack of parts should something go wrong

At that price i should get a ipad, cheapest ipad 2 is £50 more, and I hate apple so much you would not believe so spending more moeny on a apple product is a no no for me,

Let me put it this way, I had a iphone for 24 hours before i took it back and said it was shite, would of been quicker if i could of got there sooner.

Apple= advrtising old tech as if it is new and they have just invented it, oh look you can now take pictures on your phone! not that you couldnt do that god knows how many years ago! lol sorry rant over, hate apple!

i was going to get a hp in the fire sale they had but i couldnt find any,

so now my choices are down to xoom or galaxy, has no one got one? or used one? only reason i ask is I cant get to the shops and try them out

Currently, the ipad is the only option...

The build quality, number of apps and speed is far superior to any other tablet on the market.

I hate apple too but I don't hate them enough to shoot myself in the foot by buying a crap tablet with a crap OS that's going to make me less productive for a year or two..

I've still got my old ipad2 32gb wifi that I've only had for 2 weeks (honest, receipt to prove it) if you want one cheap then let me know.

Why have you only had it to weeks and selling it already then?

Pm me a price and I will see,

Have you not seen that andriod tablets are just as powerful if not more, growing in apps every day and are taking over apple in the leaders of os

    I've just got a 64gb ipad 3 - that's why I don't need my #2.

My friend bought me the ipad2 because I did a bit of work for him.

All the other operating systems are far too clunky IMO

Yea there is a new xoom out but from what i can see there isnt much differance between them, apart from the older one has 32gb instead of 16gb,

They both run the same os now and the galaxy is on sale at the mo so is the same price as the xoom only £270 which i think is pretty good, i was going more xoom, but do have a samsung phone so thought they might work together.

I just have never got on with anything apple, i also thing they are really over priced, ie you buy a standard mac laptop or pc and you can get 2x or 3x better spec windows pc or laptop for the same price, one reason i hate it and i just dont like the os. nothing to do with the success of it otherwise i would hate windows also.

If the windows tablets had been out longer i would prob get one of those.

    I also have a Playbook - I can't fault it.

As already said it's a great size & at a good price - its ideal for browsing - I'm not really into apps so the lack of don't bother me.

    Why do I hate apple??

    1. BS marketing ie 'Macs don't get PC viruses' - no sh** apple same the other way around

    2. The silly names for products ie SuperDrive (dvdrw) time machine (external hdd) to name but a few

    3. Their attitude when they get something wrong (Steve jobs trying to explain we were holding the iPhone 4 incorrectly)

    4. The way they lock down their products - I have a 64gb device that I can't connect to my computer and copy a file to it without 3rd party software.

    5. I used to have to pay apple a fee so I could tether my pc to my phone - why did apple demand a fee from operators (who passed it onto the consumer)?

The iPad still is the best tablet though.... :)

I hate Apple but have two iPads in the house, sometimes you've got to concede they offer the best product and value.

I don't *hate* Apple but right now I have no interest in owning a MacOS machine because I've never taken to the OS. However I do really like their iOS devices in comparison to alternatives and have two iPad's, iPhone and an iPod. Bought the latest Apple TV today to predominantly do "AirPlay mirroring" of the iPad 3 screen onto kitchen TV and won't be keeping a laptop in their anymore.

I also have a Playbook and find it much easier to carry around given its form factor. I use it with my BlackBerry when out and about. BlackBerry Bridge is very useful.

In regards to the two you mentioned I'd pop yourself down to PC world or Curry's and have a play. Pay attention to the screen quality and feel in your hand.
Androids pretty much the same no mater what device you use it on you may get a few custom apps in each case but honestly is there anything that good in the samsung store on your phone.
If your a playstation user you might want to consider the sony tablet for about £20 quid more.
I'd have a look at the device specific forums of each on xda forums and android modaco get some real user experience.
