Yes I'll probably test it on the windows tablet as soon as it becomes available.
But hold off a few months on the main desktop until all the kinks are ironed out

Just tried the upgrade, it cut out half way through and restored me back to the previous versions of Windows :)

Ditto. I must have implemented a couple of hundred or more tweaks to services, startup items, system and registry settings etc. over the years and my 5 year old Win 7 PC runs like the wind...

i'm probably due a new pc, so i think i'll just follow the path of buying one with 10 on it rather than messing with the magic of an upgrade.

Yeah ill be doing it as soon as it shows up.................on the missus laptop, if it then messes up i wont bother with my machines lol.

The little angel of a child woke me up at 5am this morning so instead of cracking on with work i backed up all machines onto external drives incase the update installed automatically. At least now if it does mess up ill do a restore and keep 8 for a bit longer.

We've had the pre-register icon flashing away for the last week or so. But anyone on Win 8 has a year from the 31st July to get the free upgrade.

I'll wait a few months before doing so. Always waited for SP1 to be issued on previous editions before even considering upgrades. Although 10 does sound more like a 7 upgrade, than a desktop version of 8 (which was designed for touch devices).

Hopefully it will cure the 8.1 app issue, in that the main admin hasn't been able to open, install or update any apps for the last 6 months! Microsoft have no idea what the issue is, other than 're install and start again'.

I'm led to believe that if you have the free upgrade option, you can also download the full version and install from fresh rather than upgrade, which would be a more sensible move. Haven't received my option to upgrade yet (have it approved though).

I'll be sticking with 7 for now, but will upgrade to 10 once the major bugs are ironed out. No way am I chancing it otherwise.

If anyone cant wait for it to appear in Windows Update just sign up to be an insider :

    https://insider.windows.com/Home/SetupPC

Which then allows you to download and install it on your current machine or make media to install it on another machine

So I have just managed to get it all working.

After finally getting the install to work it first chucked up loads of error messages when hitting the desktop. I had to restart.

It then loaded as a black screen, luckily I was able to get to the task manager. Through that I managed to boot up in safe mode and sort it out. Even after all that I had to manually sort out my graphics card drivers etc.

I hate to think how non savvy computer users all around the world are handling problems like this...

Erm, don't think I'll bother just yet! :/

Might do the download to media and see if I can trash an old laptop. :)

I would like to, but the benefit is not worth the potential hassle of messing my Surface Pro 3 setup up. So, at some point I'll probably just buy another laptop with Windows 10. I also have an old desktop that I might try installing it on.
