i am very wary of cheap laptops.

someone in my office bought one for £350. better spec than my 2-3 year old laptop overall. but mine still runs much better.

could just be theirs is full of cr*p and needs a good clean who knows.....

I just bought 22 laptops from Dell at £229 (+VAT so that's £269).
They all worked just fine. Vostro 1000
(1GB RAM, 60GB HD, 1280x800 15.4", 54g, AMD CPU, Windows XP)

the evesham does'nt say what type of speed the celeron is running at, I would go for a dell, for £399 they have a duo core laptop (this is customisable as well)

In my opinion a cheap, or under specced laptop, is always a false economy. Compared to a few years ago laptops are much better value, so why not consider spending a little more for something that will probably be used every day.

Regarding the one you found:

512MB is not enough memory for Vista, go for 1GB minimum.

What's the video card? If you're playing games, the video card is important, I couldn't see what it was, but it's probably not up to the job for high frame rate games.

Then there's customer support. What's Evesham's like?

I like Toshiba laptops, and for not a lot more money, you can get a much better machine, e.g.

Toshiba Satellite A100-065 - Core 2 Duo T5200 1.6 GHz - 15.4" TFT £457.97

For good places to buy laptops, see my site at:

http://www.wirelesslaptops.co.uk/

and the links on the right.

The Toshiba range is available from laptopsdirect and warrant serious consideration IMO.

As usual though DYOR.

Rgds
