Set up an auto-responder bounce message saying that the domain is for sale - free marketing to 1 million email accounts!

Dont forget to mention Acorn Domains

We had 1 domain where we had 1,000 emails in a day and then our mailserver rolled over and died, turned off the email after that so could have been many more on the way.

This is a great idea for NameDrive. If you could, optionally, point mail for a parked domain to your own mailserver...

Admin, how do I point NameDrive at this thread?

Go to "Thread Tools" and "email this page" (ed @ namedrive.com)

Or copy the thread URL into a PM

I hope you're joking!

Responding to spam with spam is as illegal as sending the original spam in the first place - many of the email addresses in spam headers are not "real" but are some poor bystander's address coopted by a spammer. If you send them a marketing message back, you ARE spamming and can risk having your hosting shut down, being sued, etc.

It could do a massive amount of damage to a commercial company being spamvertised in that way.

Think of it like this: just because a burglar has broken into your house, that never greenlights you to break into theirs!

As I drifted off to sleep it occurred to me that a good proportion of the mail would be spam. Clearly I didn't think this through before posting . Ed, nicely put.

Admin, thanks for replying with more characters than RTFM
