General Situation

is it just me but 12 months ago names were flying off this forum quicker than a wink but now...

There must be some underlying reason for this.

I agree. I guess it is a combination of deteriorating economic conditions and the fact that people are continually getting wiser to what the good names are, so the supply of good names being offered for sale is dwindling whilst people are building their portfolios.

would that mean that buyers are all maxed out on their CC's.

Not sure if that type of 'person' is a buyer here.

But then one way out of recession is to advertise more if your struggling for business - domains = a advertising medium which = turnover.

Perhaps domains arnt recession proof...

I am seeing less decent quality names for sale, and when they are they are not always cheap as chips.

People are more aware of what a domain is worth, and less likely to undersell it.

Glue.co.uk perhaps was the most recent bargain, and oddly enough that shifted pretty sharpish with lots of interest.

Good names with good prices always sell. Poor names poor prices...

I think the situation's probably gonna change next year when people are allowed to register whatever TLD they want and start selling billions of domains under new and nice TLD's

Like .eu .me .mobi .whatever already

There is lots of choice out there, the issue is that some people percive some as better than others. Obviously if you are a registrar then you may not agree

this does me head in this... not anyone can register any tld unless you have $250k for each name you like and the resources to set it up and maintain it..

Here in the UK i dont thing users will even know whats going on much beyond .co.uk & .org.uk

I'm sure there are loads and loads of people out there who have enough cash to do it! I think it will just take a bunch of them (say, 100) to really really really hurt the domain market.
