2009 Predictions Thread!

Its that time of year again for 2009 predictions!

Looking back there has been a 2006, 2007 and 2008 prediction thread

Here is my 2009 thoughts:

- ccTLD's will grow in value compared to .com and focus will be on 'local' biz.

- Reseller market will tighten as PPC rev and end user sales reduce in number. On the flip side cash buyers will do well mopping up mini-portfolios and do well long term.

- More awakening to the internet by big media companies, this can be seen now with closing down / laying off staff while forking out for relevant domains.

- TM names will become even more toxic.

- Parking rev will continue to decline with a parking company or two closing.

- This will mean domainers who largely relied on PPC will have firesales to cover costs if not dropping large wodges of names.

- New extensions will be hyped to the max and along with other new extensions will crash and burn taking vocal 'investors' down with them

- Domain events will cease to exist in current form... it will be a more '360' approach with domains / SEO / affiliate etc all being part of the circle of a good site.

- UK Recession will have increased numbers of newbies enter domaining / internet biz. Very few will make money but there will be lots of crap being priced up highly!

- Lambo Gallardo's hit under £40k and become the vehicle of choice for poncy people everywhere

Any thoughts?

Any predictions of your own?

Cheers.
Rob.

3 million unemployed. High streets looking like the wild west with loads of shops vacant.

Giants like Tesco still allowed (and) continue to build their superstores on the edges of towns to ensure they get to suck the last drop of life blood out of what shops are left on the high streets.

Then councils complaining we need to rejuvinate our town centres

Pound still being super low in value against Dollar and Euro. Which is good if you're paid in either for your affiliate sites.

I predict 2009 will be my last year in the domain game and instead invest my money in property bought at auction. Also hopefully this time next year I will be back in Oz after a two year stint here.

- Text link buying/selling with build itself back up again (some how) as emphasis on SEO continues to increase

- Webmasters will put more effort into private ad sales if adsense continues to struggle

- New dom extensions will be banged on about for ages on lots of webmaster blogs, annoying lots of us

- Lambo Gallardo's hit under £40k with Astons and Bentleys sell for even less as both compaines goes bust (not even a joke ).

Google outlaw domain names and only allow sites to be listed in their search engine if they have a google specific constantly changing encoded url that cant be visited by any explorer or search engine except Google and Google chrome.

Some of the hardcore domainers and businesses stick with domain names for a while but within months have to resort to the new Google regime to keep customers and traffic.

Domain names are rendered completly worthless within a few months as other search engines and explorers topple as people revert in desperation to the new google specific url to keep their sites and businesses alive.

Windows and Mac systems have been banned from accessing the Google search engine and explorer. Google release an operating system in association with wikipedia.
