Indeed. I generally lend to people in countries where I have been myself and seen the abject poverty first hand. $50 in The Philippines or Indonesia goes a VERY long way and it's relatively little to share with people showing the entrepreneurial spirit, despite desperate conditions.

I'd treat it as a very good cause and if you get something back then happy days, but the money can make a huge huge difference to people.
it's funny you mentioning that, some bloke i know stated a charity shop and he paid very little in rent,no employee wages and he sold donated ex-argos gear he made a fortune because only a certain percentage has to go to charity,i am not sure of the percentage but i think it is around 20%

what a t**t he was.

often like the chuggers! "Charity Muggers"...

They do it for money, whilst there are those who give their time and energy for free to pay for these annoying people. If you look into the actual amounts of money that charities get and then give to end users...you might be very very shocked.

I often wonder if the best way to make money is to start a charity. My morals get in the way....but it seems not to stop others.

I have loaned up to $XXX per loanee. But usually I spread it far and wide. Bit like Zopa better to spread to risk, but I have never had a single default! Prob more fun to spread it. But I like to make the difference between where they are and what they need.
