Bona Vacantia url auctions

Good Evening All,

I would be really grateful if someone could let me know what the url is for the UK Treasury's Bona Vacantia url auctions?

Kindest regards,

Chris Silverwood

See first result in Google for Bona Vacantia, apparently, there is a special page on that site somewhere:

Quote:
At that time the Treasury Solicitor auctioned the domain names of dissolved companies on a special "URL auctions" page of the Bona Vacantia website.

Just answered my own question!

Domain Names
15. The Treasury Solicitor is unable to sell domain names. Since October 2004 domain name registration contracts have ended immediately if the company which registered the domain name is dissolved. We are therefore no longer able to sell domain names registered with Nominet UK. Further guidance can be obtained at Nominet UK. Nor can we sell domain names ending in ".com", as the title to a domain name depends upon the place where the appropriate register is kept. The registry for ".com" domain names is operated by VeriSign Inc, whose head office is in the USA. The domain name is situated, therefore, in the USA, even if it is registered in the name of a dissolved UK company. We can only sell assets which are situated in England and Wales.

I am trying to secure a domain name that is owned by a business that has been dissolved - do i therefore just contact nominet with evidence that the company has been dissolved? Would they then allow me to purchase it or would it 'drop' forc everyone to have a go at catching?

Perhaps someone should set up a script that searches for domains that are registered to limited companies and enquires whether they are dissolved? PM me if I have hit on a genius idea??!!

Found another link for someone who sold domains for the government, but the domain no longer works:

Quote:
Auction URLs - online auction of U.K. domain names previously owned by dissolved companies. From the Treasury Solicitor's Bona Vacantia Division.
[edit]

That ^^^ url appears to be registered to Bona Vacantia, so maybe they have stopped selling them?, probably easiest if you just phoned them up to find out what the score is:

Thanks

I was aware of that site and when i visited it earlier and it was down, that's what started me on this mission. I own the Ltd company of the exact same name of the domain name that I am trying to acquire from a dissolved company. Can anyone advise me whether I have any chance of convincing nominet that I am the 'rightful' owner?

Kindest regards,

Chris Silverwood

You have absolutely no chance. Nominet don't have an opinion on such things. Your best chance is to manually register it when it drops or use a catching service to try to acquire it for a fee. Search the forum for URLs of .uk catching services. If someone else beats you to it, try to negotiate with them and if it doesn't work file a DRS or sue.
