Exactly what i thought, the arcade or them machines outside 20p a go toilets

I think it would a waste of time going to banks, building societies and the post office as they will be on the look out, imagine working in a bank and coming across a batch of 100, that's £5000 return for £20, just swap them for your own older ones

The return's potentially much higher than that, as £50 is an artificially low price being offered by the London Mint, if you compare that to the prices being achieved on eBay.

I don't see the point of them paying £50 for each one tbh. By all accounts, there are 1000s & 1000s of them out there now. In numismatic terms, they're not that valuable with that amount doing the rounds anyway. We're not exactly talking 1933 pennies, are we?

There are estimated to be 50,000 - 200,000 of these coins... In the grand scheme of things thats not that many.

Consider how many businesses cash in their change every day... From huge supermarkets to small corner shops, if nobody checks the 20ps they will be cashed in at the bank and any of these coins found will then be taken out of circulation...

That's a fair point, but I can't imagine there are 200,000 20p pieces out there (value £40k) for which someone is willing to shell out £10 million to get them back in again!

I think they believe that the majority will go completely unnoticed and be retained and taken out of circulation at banks as and when they are cashed in. Even now, I still am not checking all of the 20ps I get...
