Are Mods Paid?

I've got quite a busy forum on the go, and was wondering if mods are generally paid/unpaid for their services.

they receive sexual favors usually but most of the time they do it for the "god complex" and you will find that they are usually under the thumb at home with the missus being the dominant one and to relieve them of this pressure they become mods and order us mere mortals about.

of course i don't mean these lovely mods on this forum.......

The Mods on AD do it for free, and have done for many years for which I can never thank them enough!

I've had a few forums over the years and never paid a mod and never been paid for being one either!

I mod a pretty big forum 50K+ Members and dont get paid.

The site is currently at a small loss. We see a lot of traffic and affiliate clicks, but not much revenue. A lot of traffic is going via cashback sites and is possibly killing content sites with high user traffic.

Nah, I've ran a couple of big forums in the past, and the mods were more than happy to mod for free.. gives them a bit of status/kudos in the community.

Most admins don't even get paid running a forum is not as profitable as you might think.

mods often get privilege over and above that of a normal member and thus reap their reward this way. None of the forums I mod generate significant financial rewards though

Do they get:-
-leads/potential business from status
-privy to certain information

I really want to find the right mod(s) am basically struggling how to find them or what to offer them in the long run as it's hard to find decent people!! The mods on here seem really good (and most other forums I'm on) - I suppose if you establish a good enough forum, the right people will come to you

If you want to attract then perhaps you could offer a free advertising slot or home page link or similar?

When choosing mods though you want to approach the more experienced and mature members rather than advertising for a position, many people see being a mod as a promotion rather than a huge responsibility. Choose wisely perhaps recruit 1 mod then ask them to help with choosing the next one(s)
