new extensions

I have been looking at the new India extension .in has anyone reg'd any?

I haven’t risked getting into other extensions apart from co.uk just for financial reasons. I was just wonder what people thought about foreign extensions especially where the countries main language isn't English?

I know English this generally the internet language but in the case of india and china the population mainly speaks a local dialect and so when searching through what ever portal will use the words they know.

I suppose in this scenario the English single word generics are of greatest value when used on a global extension (not co.uk) but things like dogwalking.in aint going to be worth anything at all?

for those using English key words the already established global extensions are going to win again?

could be good, if its a browser recognised tld.

.it have become catchy have.it go4.it etc

depends on how easy it is to register/admin the names, and if non Indian businesses have the ability to register/hold the domains

There is a bit of a scam going on I think at Directi.com I have purchased a few .IN names at pre-registration and been told that should more than one person register any given name then the domain would go to auction on their site.

However they have now gone back on their word due to ICANN... not allowing them to sell the names for more than they registered.

They still have not yet made a decision on how they will allocate all the domains that they have pre-registered for thousands of people!

Has any one else experienced this problem with them or other registrars for .IN or can someone tell me what is now happening now as technical support is pathetic been trying to get an answer out of them for almost a week now?

Sorry this doesn't really help you Charlie but I do suggest staying clear of registering any until the registrars have concrete policy installed.

Regards
Danny

I'm not quite sure, not heard anything on the dates yet. They were due to be out Oct 04, Nov 04, Dec 04, Jan 05.

I personally don't think that they eu's will hold much weight in the market for a few years. This would be due to their inaccurate nature of any given or related services associated with a name.eu. For example mobiles.it would be identifiable as sales in Italy however any services under .eu would be quite indistinguisahble as to where they are based exactly?
