Domain Selling Facilitator.

Hi

what are your views on the following.

Would mainly help the big high value portfolio owners, but would also help all domains and domainers.

Could be just the system to stimulate sales of high value domains, and make them accessable to everyone.

I will outline it, not in detail, but i'm sre you can get the jist.

A system where domainers could sell their domains, 20% upfront and then 12 payments, 1 per month for the next 12 months, so 13 months in all to last payment. Or 24 months where needed.

It would have to be someone trusted and a tag holder obviously.

Basicially, there are lots of people wanting domains, but when they want them they dont have the funds for the whole purchase, but most are salaried and could afford them over a period of 12 or 24 months, and would have the 20% deposit.

This would not only stimulate higher sales but also enable domainers to get real value for their beloved domains.

Rick the preverbial does something similar, but his domain funding system in my opinion does not work.

My way would be, the tag holder, escrow by association, would hold the domain for the 13 months, they would be paid a flat fee of £50 upto £100 depending on term etc

Not much but for almost no work, worth it.

If a buyer purchases domain abc.co.uk for £30000, they would pay the seller £6000 once the seller had tagged the domain to the holding agent.

then at month 12 or 24, you transfer domain to buyer.

If however, you hear that the buyer has stopped paying, and defaults by more than 15 days, the domain is returned to the seller, and all monies kept by the seller. win win situation.

If there were any irregularities, domainers messing about, where a payment has been paid etc and seller saying it hasnt to retain domain, the agent would have to look at the email proof of payment etc, would not happen much, and would take away the fraud.

No more chargeback worries for sellers, as the domain can only be transferred after the 12 or 24 month period, not sooner even if the buyer now has the money.

The buyer gets to use the domain straight away, as nameservers can be appointed also from deposit.

I recently had the pleasure of dealing with a very trusted domainer, and after that felt this system could actually work.

What do you think?

Classified Rating: 100% (1)

What would happen if someone sues you while you're holding the name in escrow? 13 months is a long time to be exposed to such risk.

Less of a problem with gTLDs but with .co.uk, to be secure, the .co.uk domain would actually need to be transferred to you – registered in your name.

I also think you'd need some type of financial licensing to do this legally.

The buyers would be fully identified, and there could always be a clause, that if any legal action were to be undertaken by the buyer, the domain would instantly be returned to the seller.

There will always be issues with domains that have potential legal implications, however for the majority, it would be a breeze.

No licencing or funding would be required.

The system would be in favour of the sellers, but safe for buyers.

Its not me wating to do it, I just think that there could be a gap for something like this.

Its a no brainer to be honest.
