number plate trademark infringement

I don't see too many big companies sueing for people using their mark on a numberplate - eg bbc or whatever?

Does it happen - I've had a look and can't see it.

i dont think a numberplate can be associated with a trademark. i'm not sure of the definition of a trademark, but a numberplate cant really be seen as being used or registered in bad faith.

If there is i sure hope nobody has a TM out on the plate i brought yesterday

on a seprate note, google ads seem to be pretty good a picking up the keywords and serving ads today.(at bottom). i dont often see such relevent ones served, especially on forums.

A number plate was originally issued by DVLA on a totally random basis - the fact that you now own (through procurement or otherwise) a number plate which looks like a trade mark is not an issue. You are not using it to directly advertise any competing product when it is atached to a particular car / bike then you should be ok. Audi may be have a case if you put AUD 1 on a Fiesta (sorry guys if any of you own one!!) but do you really think that it would be classed as passing off of a brand?
