Any advice for owners of adult related websites

Hello all.

I'm after your advice about adult related themes, basically I want to try and get the best results from google for my site Adult Magazines

Some of the magazine covers are explicit (not really hardcore but soft porn) as you would see on the top shelf of a newsagent.

I've hidden the images on my site by getting people to click on the over 18 link, which then shows them. Do you think I'm trying to hard and should just show all or do you think this will help my site in the long run?

Since the site is used exclusively for adult magazines, I don't think those viewing it will be adverse to seeing a bit of flesh. If it was a general magazine site then I would certainly censor images, but otherwise I wouldn't bother. View a general mag site as the newsaagents, and an adult site as a sex shop magazine rack .

Just my personal view and I'm sure others will chip in.

i am not sure that there are legal issues with this kind of site ,don't you have to confirm that you are over 18 years of age or something ,also there is the other way of looking at this if a 8-9 year old searches through google for magazines and accidently stumbles across your site and then the first thing that they come across is naked women with the baps hanging out ?

my girl was looking to print pictures so she could colour them in the other day and when i entered the room there was porn on the net...

Yep I agree, I've got a young child and wanted to put in place something that may prevent this from happening, hence the question on my page.

The pic's are soft porn though, boobs are in newspapers etc but its trying to find the right balance

I think if there's nothing more than boobs then it's not too problematic. Taking into account the above comments, is it possible for you to censor specific images rather than the lot, say if almost all covers are software, but the occasional mag has a more graphic image?

Why not put age protection in place up front, and then display the magazine covers as-is once people have passed the age protection?

There is a way to let Google's spiders "login" to see content that requires registration for the purposes of indexing so I guess that need not sabotage your SEO efforts if done right...

Plus if you ever do get any issues the police do seem a lot happier if you have the notice up as it shows you are doing something to protect people.

I did hear there was a law coming in to say you had to have the warning, but its a while since I had dealings with adult sites so im not sure if it came in or not.

The Alcohol and Gaming Industry, do that asking for Date of Birth on the intro page, which sets a cookie, which seems acceptable for most of them.
