Why sell catches immediately?

I'm just curious... I see lots of people catch domains and turn around and resell them instantly for (often) a low-xxx price or less. Is there any particular reason for doing so?

For instance, have you found that people pay a lot more attention to names for sale that were on their own drop lists for that day?

Is it the desire to avoid having to carry a lot of inventory?

Is it something else?

Of course, a steady stream of xxx amounts eventually adds up to a nice sum, I'm not criticising the approach - but a lot of the names are the kind of thing that would probably fetch a solid x,xxx amount when sold to an end-user...

People seem to get excited about tat that drops due to it being a drop.

Therefore the ideal time to flog that name is in the day or so after catch.

My guess is that this mostly applies to mediocre domains and the fact that they are now newly registered i.e 2010 this detracts from the domains attraction.

If catchers are in it to flip, better to do it quickly I think. If I saw a catcher trying to sell a name they caught a month ago, part of me would think they'd have been trying to sell to end users for the last month without success.

I think all of the above are right.

I was given strict instruction on what to buy, and ended up ignoring it, and just bought names for the sake of it.

I'm quite happy to get a tenner on top of what i paid, only downside is, if i bought 5 that cant sell, im still way down, as I use public catchers

Just about to go with a new service that costs £50 a month and is less than a ms from nom, well established perl script from top domainer, so hopefully this will bring me some luck.

This is not a sales pitch, as its already posted on forum, but I cant beleive lexie.co.uk isnt worth £79, I was well off with that one, which is where most like me go wrong.

Edwin makes a great point about carrying stock, nightmare, especially when you cant shift it for anyprice lol

Yes, that is called lazy and lousy cat behaviour in psychology. A cat catches a mouse once in a while and shows his owner it to get attraction
