To threaten to report people who post adult names for sale that a person personaly finds offensive is oversensitive and ridiculous, they are just words, made up of letters in the Alphabet, get over yourselves.

Oh the irony in your post is unreal

Have a nice saturday

Thing is, the word isn't beastiality, it's bestiality. Look in a dictionary! I know because my Registrar manages the correctly spelt one on behalf of a client. So next time this topic comes up at the end of a dinner party or something, you can all go "actually it's not beastiality, but bestiality" and before they ask you how the hell you know you can mention that you learnt about it on a domain name forum!

As a simple word on its own I don't find it offensive. Anyone who is old enough to consider getting into "domaining" should own a decent dictionary and therefore will have a reference to the word.

I think they should be in the correct section but your never going to stop that as new people join up and they don't read the rules .

I do too but I didn't realise the hidden opt-in adult section existed until this month when I read about it by chance in a thread.

That wasn't what Caz said. From what I understand, there isn't a problem with adult domains as long as they are posted in the correct section.

It's not about reporting names that are 'personally offensive' or generally adult in nature, it's about reporting ones which are obviously describing an illegal act (whether typo or not).

Exactly.

And I haven't the time or inclination to try and censor peoples posts, but as it says above, anything which is against the law in this way, miss spelt or not, should not be able to be viewd in public.

Taken from a pm I sent to someone earlier...

Domainers seem to be despised in a few Internet circles and the few people I've tried to explain what I try and do, buying and selling domains have had a look at acorn and pointed out all the bad bits.

I guess that's what a community or club site is like but like yourself there are some lovely people on acorn and I thought I was certain that the majority wanted a good business type site with banter yes but nit a free for all. That looks good for a bit but after a while the new people who are attracted to joining see it as the norm and before you know it the good people leave or visit less.

Do we really want this as the Norm?

And to the person who left this negative reputation

'personal attacks are out of order'

I was not aware I had made a personal attack, I really like and respect the poster of the domain that is mentioned, and I did not point to a thread nor give any clue.

Look if you think the forum is fine as it is, then get on with it.

I would be interested to know what your opinions are of non adult related names that describe illegal activity, like roberry.co.uk mugging.co.uk, shoplifting.co.uk, carjacking.co.uk, stabbing.co.uk, call me pedantic if you wish, but is it just illegal adult activity related names which you find abhorrent?

I personally do not own any offensive names, a couple of mild adult ones, but that's it, and I agree that they should be in the correct place, its just the holy-er than thou attitude of some people that annoys me, as most of the time these people are the most hypocritical.

I did wonder about that myself, simply because it is usually possible to say "but what about these? Shouldn't they be banned also?". The names that sprung to mind were "speeding.co.uk", "driving-above-70mph-on-uk-motorway.co.uk" and "graffiti.co.uk" but there will be many others. All can refer to illegal acts but I don't think we'd consider hiding these domain names away from the mainstream forum. So that beggars the question why should bestiality.co.uk be restricted simply because it refers to something that is illegal? After all simply discussing that subject is not illegal, nor would linking the domain name to the relevant page of an online dictionary.

Perhaps the "adult" category should be renamed to "domain names that are likely to cause embarrassment if my child saw them listed and asked me what they were". So throw masterbation.co.uk into that one, forgetting the percentage of teenagers that engage in the practice!

I understand your viewpoint.
