If that's the case why has the header got ??????.co.uk rather than cardiff.co.uk?

Not sure but it hasn't been edited - for some reason the logo file on the clone website is defaulting to "/Images/Logo/no-logo.jpg" whereas the normal logo should be "/Images/Logo/logo-cardiff.jpg" (both files are accessible on the original website).

Its probably chosen by the URL. So the framework can easily be reused for other places.

I know imitation can be flattering sometimes, but cheeky b&ggers!

I'd be straight onto the local authority about it - cowboy web designers stealing copyrighted design/info, very annoying!

Wow... posted this morning, and 24 replies. Thanks for the insightful replies!

Yes the framework runs 18 websites from one database, and pulls through the correct images, business data and text according to the URL, which is why no logo is appearing.

Looking at Webmaster tools, it seems that Google has spidered 96,000 pages of HarltpoolNow.com, and Google is quickly going to think I'm spamming, as content is being directly duplicated. It's interesting that Cardiff.co.uk never seems to increase in the rankings, yet Harlow and Stockport have just crept onto the 1st page of Google. It could be extremely costly.

One thing you could do is add the "canonical" meta tag to each page, containing the real definitive URL of that page. That way, if it shows up on other domains/other sites (like the current problem) Google will "credit" the correct page. Equally, you could probably also do something with .htaccess directives and some kind of regex statement to redirect any "wrong" URLs to the correct ones.

I see they fixed the problem for Phil. They now have it set so:

www.hartlepoolnow.com redirects to tincan.co.uk
hartlepoolnow.com redirects to www.hartlepoolnow.co.uk - success!!
hartlepoolnow.co.uk redirects to community.scientiasolutions.co.uk (a domain that is not even registered)

Don't you just love professionals?
