Swimming With Sharks

Just completed my open water scuba course in Thailand and we ended up swimming with a whale shark! Was pretty amazing I was right up close and have attached some pics.

Took some pretty good video on a camera I've bought (highly recommended) - Muvi Atom, and also purchased a waterproof housing. Can get both units for around £80-85 if you shop around - not amazing picture quality but a lot cheaper + more portable than lugging a big digital camera housing round underwater - it fits in the palm of your hand - great for filming underwater affordably/for fun and also pretty sturdy for action/adventure usage e.g. mountain biking (can be affixed to helmet).

Just wondered if there are any divers out there / what's the most memorable thing you've swum with

awesome, you are very lucky to have done that. I've passed my 1st Padi course and would love to go again.

Nice photos Nick, must have been great down there swimming with them, not something I would do, as I don't particularly like being in water, apart from under a shower.

Reminds me of the classic shark line from the Office:

Quote:
“If you’re so clever, what am I thinking now?”
“You’re thinking how can I kill a tiger armed only with a biro.”
“No.”
“You’re thinking if I crash land in a jungle will I be able to eat my own shoes.”
“No. And you can’t”
“What are you thinking Gareth?”
“I was just wondering whether will there ever be a boy born who can swim faster than a shark.”

You're lucky you didn't go the same way as Johnny out of 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisp

You got really close to them, a lot better than just being in a cage

What an amazing experience. How big was the whale shark, Nick?

Great job Nick, when I was in the maldives we were hoping to see some whale sharks, missed out by a day! Loved diving though, need to do a refresher course or something.

Twas a 5 metre shark - breathtaking when you see it in the water so graceful. It also has an entourage of sharksuckers one of which attached itself to my knee. Mistaking me for a whale shark not a good sign...time to hit the treadmill

Been diving since I was 9, the best dive I have ever had is the Thistlegorm off Egypt. Incredible dive, turtles, sharks, and an immense wreck.
