I presume they are cheap as HP are stopping making PCs & tablets. I also presume they will be stopping any repairs and the like, so after your guarantee you'll be a bit stuck!

These devices have standard parts inside, available to source seperately from suppliers. I've purchased parts for a number of mobile phones and replaced them myself. Many companies also offer to repair damaged mobiles, smartphones and tablets online. Shouldn't pose a problem. Either way, how long do these kind of devices usually get used for? Three years and they're ancient, probably. Saying that, I finally got around to replacing two PC's belonging to my parents that they've been using since late 2001.

I saw this coming on Friday when the US and Canadian stores were given permission by HP to slash the prices. So on Saturday I popped into a local BestBuy and purchased 2 x 32Gb and 1 x 16Gb for whatever they cost prior to today's massive price reduction in the UK. BestBuy UK have a policy where they will fully refund the purchase price for any unopened product, subject to a few exceptions. I discussed this with the sales people in the store before I made my purchase and explained I was hedging that by mid this week the price would have been slashed in the UK to. They were disagreeing with me, probably on purpose, but I made my purchase after they confirmed I could return them for a full refund. I suspect the staff were waiting for the reduction so they could grab them for themselves and their friends.

I spoke to BestBuy UK earlier today and they will refund me either the full amount I paid, or the difference between what I paid and the reduced prices, if I return to the store to do it. So I'm pleased I prempted the rush on Saturday, although not everyone has a BestBuy near them or knows about their refund promise. I've provisionally sold two to friends, and the third to my parents.

The mania today online knocked CPW, Comet and other online retailer's web sites offline earlier.

I wouldn't bother. All these people will have beaten you to it unless you're lucky.

I'll be interested to speak to the BestBuy branch staff if I got in tomorrow to sort out my refund, given they were so certain that the price wouldn't be dropped and therefore that there wouldn't be a mad rush for the remaining stock. They told me I took their last two 32Gb models, so I had to take my third as a 16Gb. I'll smile if they had a mad rush of people in yesterday evening, given what they told me on Saturday.

I think its just errors with so many people using it, I initially tried at 10-11 when I read the post, but the search for store kept malfunctioning, so I tried a few times and eventually booked a 16 and 32 at different stores, that was only 10 minutes ago.

I imagine lots of people wont turn up so you could be lucky in store.
