![]() | email hacked
my email has been hacked and is sending messages to ALL MY CONTACTS asking them to open a site and it is very believeable....well not just contacts, like everyone i ever had an email with. it is via my aol email but i assume they must have hacked outlook express which is on an old computer. Anyway, anyone know what i can do to stop it and also anyone know how i can do what these f%$^ers have done so i can email all the potential people "i" have supposedly emailed to tell them. nightmare |

oh dear, I feel your pain. I would put up a warning message on Facebook and Twitter (assuming you use them) to let people know what has happened. You had better think about what they could have read in there and start changing all your passwords (including forum ones!). Not sure what you can do to stop them impersonating you now they have your contacts list, it's easy to set up an email client to appear as anyone else. Maybe send your own email to the same list? If you can get a copy of any email they have sent, you might be able to see the IP address in the header. Hope you get it sorted. Admin |

Very sorry to hear about this. It sounds like a nightmare Talking of hacking, can someone please confirm that the worries concerning hacking of this forum are, in fact, nothing to be concerned about? If there's any doubt please let me know and I'll change my password etc. |

I had mt hotmail account hacked 2 weeks ago, it was unused except to forward mails i just deleted it. Only issue was that the account was one i used for marketing domains so they all got a very nasty link. I was unable to get feedback and lost the addresses. I had two laptops one computer and two hard drives go down. My wife, unknowingly, used the herd drive on each device and hey presto... I feel your pain |

The issues I has seen relate to date issues (post dates of 2106 for example) which to me is a server error! but they won't admit to that. It wouldn't hurt to change your passwords from time to time anyway. If anything of concern comes to light (now or in the future) I would always be open with members about it. If anyone has still has a concern, please contact me directly. Admin | |

Good advise here Admin. Also well done with getting this site back up. You forget how much you use a site until it goes down Quote:

Somebody was mis-using my AOL address at one time, did it more than once, about 12 years ago. My mailbox didn't show that I'd been hacked, but I got a few "failed to deliver" emails returned to my mailbox - that's when I found out it was happening. Some DJ wanted a bulk email sent out and got someone else to do it on the cheap. I don't know where they actually sent it from, it didn't come from my email, but it had my address on it. It also had the postal address of a record shop in Kings Cross London as distributors of certain bits of vinyl referred to in the mailing. Since I occasionally had to deliver the vinyl to said establishment when I had my courier hat on, I went round and asked the gaffer what he knew - and he looked genuinely blank, like he was clueless. Much later, I found out that the naughty boys who know how to do these things have ways to stick any address they feel like on an email, and it fools most of the systems most of the time. People like that don't need to hack your mailbox. they just get weekend access to some place with an appropriate dedicated phone line, clag an extra pre-loaded server onto the system, and pump out their stuff from Saturday to Sunday. Security = Sick You Rite Y ? |

Thanks All no choice but to delete the account i think which is a major pain but ho hum. Crabfoot, sounds exactly the same as your scenario, i have the bounced ones but no sent ones inmy mailbox.... Khalid, your 100k should be on its way, just check the post early for the next couple of years.. Edit: was reply to a pm from user Banana on here who was kind enough to pm me some advice and it said "This forum requires that you wait 60 seconds between sending private messages. Please try again in 2972842230 seconds" so i think the hacking bit is still here too
