Could he get any further up his own arse

Rick Schwartz

In principal he may be right, say no for long enough and someone may just make you a good offer, that is fine for the millionaire but if he had my domains and limited funds i doubt he would be so far up his own arse and like many of us, banging out his domains on Domainlore

Ohhh and please do not miss out on all the comments at the bottom of the page, specially when Rick gets pissed off.

He may rub some people up the wrong way - correction, he DOES rub some people up the wrong way - but he has done a massive amount to advance the industry, through the TRAFFIC tradeshows and some very high profile, widely reported sales. In fact, it's hard to think of a single individual other than perhaps Frank Schilling that has had a similar impact. There is also a big element of jealousy as you might expect when anyone blows their own trumpet at their successes as loudly as he does - but the smart people see through to the underlying message (the important bit) and ignore the trumpet-playing.

Sure, he's a "character" but from all accounts highly professional when it really counts. I've been to 2 TRAFFIC shows, but both were outside the US and Rick couldn't make it over, so I've unfortunately never met the chap. We've exchanged many an email though...

Have you watched the Rick Schwartz interview at DomainSherpa.com? I have, and he seems like a very switched on guy to me. I think it's great that he takes time to share helpful insights, and what he is saying about sales prices is good advice too. My view is that being successful in domaining is all about knowing which are you quality names, and knowing when to hold out for the right price. However, I appreciate that sometimes flipping on DomainLore is a necessity, and like to do a bit of that myself too!!

Rgds

He does make me laugh! However what he says in the comments I do have to agree with. I got some of my best sales ever by playing hardball with people who approached me. The other way around does confer a weakness, so his strategy of being approached first is great...it just cannot work entirely for me...

But I do find myself sending rude responses to low ballers, domain "sniffers" and the like. I just cant help myself...

Rick is very focussed, that for sure and he's got anough clout to see that execution, however for smaller players, cash flow can be an issue. But as they say execution is everything and he's being it well for an awfully long time.

Rick is what he is and you can not help but admire the guys tenacity, his acumen and his boundless talent.

The self crowned DotComKing and a Title worthy of His Name.

I do enjoy his banter and am saddened to say that I will miss the blog.

I can't fault the advice he gives. I understand that some don't like his delivery, but I love it - life needs characters and there is none larger in this business. He is the consumate salesman. You've just got to 'get him'.

Someone mentioned Frank Schilling earlier, and though I respect what he has achieved, I don't think you can put him (or anyone else) in the same league as Rick when it comes to freely dispensing valuable advice; predicting the future of the industry; or furthering the importance of domain names.
