For those of you looking for less material and more valuable gifts to give for xmas, I suggest getting a 23 and me DNA and ancestry test. I was one of the first to have it done in the UK many years ago and its been an invaluable experience where I have changed my lifestyle and even met people whom I never knew I was related to.

It's a great educational gift for children too, to help them learn about their own make-up and take responsibility for themselves. In fact, its a great gift for everyone for a variety of reasons and the price has gotten cheaper! by 23$.

I know this sounds rather like a sales pitch, but I work in a related field, and it will even help medical research with more people that use the service. It's personalized medicine and its already here!

On another note, it might just save your life. A relative of mine in the US has advanced prostate cancer and this showed up as a risk factor on the test. However he only got the genetic screening after he routine check-up in the states @ 50 years old and it was too late by then.

Its a great thing to do, just for the kicks...and you never know when you could join the dots.
