![]() | What can I do?
I caught the domain name imgbox.co.uk last year as I liked the sound of it. Attempts to sell it on here and domainlore have failed so I'm now considering my options. Looking at the google analytics stats I can see that it was previously used as an image upload service. I have no wish to create an image upload website as I can't see any benefit over the hundreds already out there (and god knows how it would make any money!) Is there anyway I can intercept these inbound requests for images and return another image? (Does that make sense!) |

What about targeting a commercial photographer or someone who sells photos online, as a domain name for an online portfolio?

The model that freepik.com use is very popular - offer a mix of free photos and affiliate/commission-giving ones from Shutterstock in search results. Another model - getting people to upload their photos and then, when they sell, take a small cut of the profit (or charge a membership fee and the photographers keep all the profits). Could do something social round it like pinterest or flickr, but doubt it would be worth the effort. |

Image hosting sites a serious pain the ass, I sold one and the new owner just got fed up or all the porn and torrent sites caining the service and let the domain expire and is now owned by a fellow acorner. The T&C is a nightmare, take down requests are ultra agressive, bandwidth usage is insane, shared hosting would crumble under the load, you need 512mb Dedicated Ram minimum on a VPS, the whole thing is a pain. I'd look at something more like a photo twitter dealio.
