This is all to true when will the big organisations get it. what companies like megaupload rapidshare prove is people are happy to pay a reasonable monthly fee for access to the latest movies tv shows etc.
The film and TV industry need embrace and profit from the internet in a simalar way the music industry is from the link up with apple.
Just make sure they don't go down the route of only making your content avaliable on a single platform

Bumping this with some interesting reading on why megaupload was really shut down..

Turns out Megaupload were on the brink of unveiling a new service ;

Quote:
MegaBox, MegaBox was going to be an alternative music store that was entirely cloud-based and offered artists a better money-making opportunity than they would get with any record label.

"UMG knows that we are going to compete with them via our own music venture called Megabox.com, a site that will soon allow artists to sell their creations directly to consumers while allowing artists to keep 90 percent of earnings," MegaUpload founder Kim 'Dotcom' Schmitz told Torrentfreak

Not only did they plan on allowing artists to keep 90% of their earnings on songs that they sold, they wanted to pay them for songs they let users download for free.

"We have a solution called the Megakey that will allow artists to earn income from users who download music for free," Dotcom outlined. "Yes that's right, we will pay artists even for free downloads. The Megakey business model has been tested with over a million users and it works."

I notice that legal action is being threatened due to the hundreds of thousands of people who used megaupload to store their perfectly legal files. They're no doubt not best pleased that their files are now gone. I doubt anything will come of it, but I have some sympathy for them. It's a side of the story that doesn't tend to get highlighted because it involves what is owned by individuals rather than huge corporations.
