Moneybookers - Do many people use it?

Okay, as some of you might know by know, I write content for a lot of people here on AD. I'm starting to dislike PayPal more and more lately (I'm know I'm not the only one too!) so I'm thinking about not using them anymore (or just not as much as I normally use them).

So, what I basically want to know is:
Do many people on here use Moneybookers? Is it worthwhile joining Moneybookers so people can pay me using it rather than PayPal?

I know nothing about Moneybookers (haven't joined it yet but I will if others would be happy paying using it) so I think I'll start looking in to it.

Quick question though:
Can you request a payment just like you can with PayPal so the person paying can just enter their credit card details etc to make a payment? I'm sure that would be handy since some people mightn't have a Moneybookers account.

Thanks in advance,
Jamie.

What about BACs? Very simple and cheap to receive funds direct into your bank account?

Have thought about that but because I'm in Ireland I expect that there would be charges and maybe a couple of days before it goes through. So I'd rather something that's pretty much instant.

I'm the same. I'm just interested to know whether it's something that a decent amount of people use or if nobody at all uses it. Even if people could pay me without having their own account that would be brilliant!

Just joined Moneybookers a few minutes ago to test it out.

Hopefully someone with Moneybookers will want an article or two soon so I can see how things work. I'm going to try find out if I can request someone to pay that doesn't have a Moneybookers account (without joining) now.

Used to use quite a bit on all the bookie websites in my matched betting days, not so much now. Have no problem using it, but i can imagine it being a bit of pain having to sign up to make payment if i didnt already have an account.

I have used Moneybookers in the past. It is a reputable and efficient service, but I didn't like their charges.

BACS with IBAN have been used all over most of Europe for a long time, and a standard transfer only costs about €1. In UK and Ireland the hassle has been that you can get automated payments in, but you had to use the "paper" system to make transfers out of your account, at £14 charges a time and snail's pace transfer speed.

Yesterday I logged into my Lloyds account and got a message suggesting that automated transfers out were now possible.

I didn't have time to check it out, but if that is the case, the BACS system is probably becoming the best answer to the problem.

EDIT: Checked it out - good news and bad news.
Lloyds now allow you to make international transfers out from the online banking set-up, but you're still making what is essentially a "paper transfer", and the charges are still high with a crummy exchange rate.

Nochexman is on a distinguished road

Have you considered opening a UK bank account?

I would agree that BACs is the lowest cost way of accepting payments. Have you considered opening a bank account with a UK bank that is on the BACs network?

Hope this helps,
- Peter
