I have bought a portfolio of 1100+ domains

I have a good org.uk domain name which ranks and does well, and I have fancied the .co.uk for some time now, but knew the registrant didn't sell cheap from some the older posts on here.

I also knew that he was a bit of a mystery amongst the old time catchers (also posted on here in the past), so I decided to pay him a visit (because I really wanted the .co.uk) and his address on the whois was only 13 miles from where I live, so thought what the hell, I have noting to lose.

To cut a long story short, he is a nice normal guy in his 60's who was looking to get out of the game. He gave a me a full list of his names and asked me if I was interested - naturally I said yes, but would need time to think about it, and look through the list in detail.

So I went away and done just that. We met up again a few days later and agreed a deal for the lot and I now own his entire portfolio.

A combination of having a bit of initiative to actually track down a domain I really wanted and being in the right place, at the right time, ended up with over 1100 domains as a result

I will be looking to sell the majority of names once I finish sorting them all as there are some real crackers in this portfolio.

Congrats to you domainseller200. Intersting story. It just proves that if you REALLY fancy a domain you have go the extra mile and possibly meet face to face with the domain owner ... as you have nothing to lose and everything to gain which in your case is it was a whole portofolio

Sounds interesting. At first glance, I can't spot who it is you "scooped up" so it will be cool to see when you can post more info about the deal. Congratulations.

Interesting story. I'm not sure how I would react if a buyer turned up on my doorstep offering to buy something that I had not put on the market. Good to see how you get on once you review your new portfolio.
