Sorry to bring this type of thread up again :D

I am due a free upgrade end of september/december and would like a blackberry.

At the moment the choice is between:

    BlackBerry Bold
    BlackBerry Curve 8900
BlackBerry Curve 8520 (New this month)

Now obviously im tempted to get the latest curve 8520 as the others have been around for a bit. But im rather confused....

Why is the new model number 8520? Is it a new model but of a lower standard and quality?

I see the Bold has 3G and the curves dont... is it really needed?

I want to be able to email and browse the web/forums on the move without any problems.

    What are your thoughts?

BlackBerry - Compare BlackBerry Smartphones and PDAs at BlackBerry.com

Go try them in one of those outmoded things called a Mobile Phone Shop. :) I have a Bold in daily use, a Storm for a laugh on Vodafone and a Curve for backup on a third network. I turned off 3g on my Bold because I can get 2-3 days of battery out of it in 2g. I don't need 3g for email and only do the odd bit of web browsing on it. An Iphone is better if you do a lot of web browsing IMHO. For emailing and IM, I wouldn't give up my Bold. Like I said you need to try them out and decide which one you like the keyboard and screen of.

I'm just wondering why anyone would even consider buying a shite Slackberry over an iPhone?

Maybe, but surely not that much in it? And folk here are tech-savvy so probably want a device that can 'do it all'. I'm a bugger for gadgets.

As I am currently very happy with my iPhone 3GS, I brazenly have for sale:

    iPhone 3G 16GB white (jailbroken) - mint
    iPhone 3G 16GB black (O2) - mint
    Nokia E90 - VGC
    Nokia E71 - (O2) - mint
O2 Atom Life PPC - mint
    HTC Trinity PPC - VGC

Sheep? Size? The fact its more of a Toy than a business tool? Cost?

Email is the be all and end all for me. I dont want a toy that can make farting noises, tell me where a McDonalds is or explain how to complete a Rubiks cube.

I'm also looking to upgrade my current BB - Currently got a Pearl (3 years old) which has been an absolute gem - Like firestars, e-mail is everything.

I was looking at the 8520 on the weekend, but personally probably prefer the 8900 (I like rollaball's more than the trackpad) and the silver edging looks a bit nicer. The 8520 is quite a nice phone, but it just looks a bit cheaper than the other current BB's. Plus the 8900 has a much better camera (3.3mp vs 2.0) and GPS - Although I really only care about e-mail...

What were the complaints about the Storm?

Im on Orange who dont do the iphone, I dont want one anyway.

I new this would turn into a anti-blackberry thread. :D

From what I can see the 8520 curve is a budget version in the curve series, so it may be wise to go for the 8900 curve! I would go for the bold but it looks quite big. As said I will have to go look in a shop!

I have a nokia 8800 arte anyway as my normal phone and will be keeping it, so this really is just a free extra I can use for email etc.

For the majority of users, probably nothing...

However if you happen to use an Exchange server, then irrelevant of what Apple claim, BB's are still the better option.

The 8900 and 8520 are pretty much the same size (the 8520 is slightly thicker from memory). I took a look at a Bold on the weekend and it is quite a bit bigger, in fact it's bigger than the Storm.
