I have been contacted by Traderdomains.net who are offering to sell me the dot com version of a domain that I already have in the dot co dot uk version for $49. Price seems reasonable - I am interested. Anybody have any comments? good or bad. Tradredomains say that they have just "dropcatched" the domain - Internic shows it as free for registration.

    Thanks in advance.
Sorry if this post is not in the right section.

It's a new version of an old scam.

They run a list of taken .co.uk against the zone file and flag free names, then offer them for sale for $49.

If you buy it they'll reg it and sell you it.

I'd just register it if I were you - assuming it's still free.

People used to use the 5 day .com redemption period to do this when it used to be free - ie they'd reg your name, offer it to you for $100 and if you didn't buy it they'd drop it 5 days later having not spent a penny ;)

Thanks for that feedback. I think that I'll register the dotcom domain myself.
