No idea about the hot dog machine - but I bought a halogen heater a while back that was a bit embarrassing.

    Two problems with that heater.

Problem no.1 - the plug did not make contact in any of the downstairs sockets, it only works in a couple upstairs.

Problem no.2 - it has a touchy "safety switch" on the base, that only makes contact on a perfectly flat and level surface. Shagpile carpet - forget it.

Took it back to the shop, the bloke plugged it in, and it glowed appropriately warming the surrounding environment.

Looking embarrassed, I took it back home and still couldn't get it to work. Then I started investigating seriously. I have a two way adapter that it works with, that lets it plug into any socket in the house. And I have an old bit of Formica sheet that makes it work on a carpet when slipped under the safety switch.

Try the hotdog maker in more than one socket. Try using an adapter. And check for a safety switch.
