Most will be aware that DM have put there price up for catching, I don't recall getting an e-mail also on their FAQs it clearly states £19.99 plus vat on top of the registration fee yet they have charged me £29.99

I am going to e-mail them, if they want to charge £29.99 then they should put this in their FAQs >

Anyone else who has had a recent DM catch care to join me ;)

Here's a screen shot from today, note the date >

    count me in !

I queried this with them, on the 19th of may :

    Hi

Can you tell me why I have been charged £42.17 for this back order, but a
    backorder I aquired on 15th may 2010 for xxxxxxxxx.co.uk was only £30.42 ?

    Many thanks
    Frank

    They replied this :

    Hi Frank,

Thanks for contacting Domainmonster support. I apologise if this caused you any confusion, however the back order fee is now £29.99 + VAT as well as the standard registration fee. Which explains the increase in the order amount in your most recent invoices. An email was sent out to all of our users who had active backorders at the time of the increase to let them know, and after the email was sent (sent on the 10th May) the charges stayed constant at the older reduced price for a week after this email date for anyone that had placed backorders before the email was sent out completing within this week, to make sure it was as fair as possible.

I apologise if this caused you any confusion, but I hope the above helps to explain! Please do let me know if you need anything further.

    Kind Regards,

    April

Price remained the same for 1 week so why do they still show £19.99 plus vat then, it's not our fault that they don't update their FAQs and after you already contacted them I would have thought that was a priority.

I'm usually full of praise for DM but in this case when you consider the fact they are on the ball with things then I can only think they are knowingly doing this.

I took a sceenshot and saved it and posted it on here so date stamped, if they don't change it then I will contact the OFT.

I don't mind them putting their price up, that's upto them but I hate it when people and businesses lie to me.

My e-mail has gone to them Frank requesting they change their FAQs information and asking for a £10 reinbursment in which they still get a bit extra money because without the other £10 then the vat would have been less.

    Thanks for your support

I suppose I should at some stage write about what we public catchers (and privates) call the 'catching wheel'. First off, it IS a numbers game. It's just like the 'Wheel of Fortune' game. The more domains you have in your 'spin', the less likely you are to catch them. Unless of course you cheat.

if they publicly state that price ,as they have, then they have to honour it.
if anyone remotely refutes that at domain monster then i suggest they need retraining or look for another job
the bigger a company gets, the more chance they have of inducing whopping fines for this sort of thing from trading standards etc
its why supermarkets always honour pricing even if wrong

tbh for me domain monster couldnt catch a cold anyway, caught 'jack' for me

and we're not talking uber nice .co.uk here. we're talking .org.uk, and not even top of the line. either that or people are catching any reasonable quality .org.uk that drops

the only real success i have had catching is with Chris (caught)

Out of about 100 booked, they caught 1 but tbh some are quality domains and sought after.

They caught for me largewallmirror#co#uk 6k UK exacts per month and average price of £100 so could be good :)

With prices gone up I am now only booking decent ones, the more I book it's the more chance of catching, from my point of view it's a numbers game.

Good luck with your future catches Pred ;)

DM have caught a few for me over the last year. Sold one a couple of months ago for £350. At the end of the day most £xxx+ names will go to private catchers, if the public catchers get lucky then great!

Public catchers have caught LLL.co.uk domains. I'm not going to blow a trumpet here, but the name of the game is to book your names at as many 'no win, no fee' places as possible.

Absolutely. If it's worth catching, it shouldn't matter who gets the domain for you. And if it's not even worth the effort of booking it "everywhere" that's a message written 20ft high in flaming letters on the side of a mountain that it's not a name worth going after at all.

Some of mine are written in 20ft high flamed letters on side of a mountain, problem is everyone else can see the sign :(

Out of curiosity Edwin, do you catch yourself, I know I'm looking forward to the day that I can and the sooner the better but I'm sure I need something like a grand to get started :?

    Thanks

No, I don't catch at the moment. I just make sure that I spread my catches across every (no upfront fee) catcher I can find to maximise my chances. So far, it's working pretty well!

Cheers mate, I could do with a list of public and private catchers which has given me a good idea, I'm going to make a mini site using my domainnamecatching.co.uk and put catchers on there with their URL, contact e-mail and price wether they're public or private and wether they charge upfront or not and maybe showcase some of their big fish, I'm thinking of not charging for this but simply doing it as my way of helping the domaining community. (ofcourse they'll be adsense and aff banners)

I think I'll start making them, I'll do domainnamecatching.co.uk but not sure about expiringdomainnames.co.uk as I can't get a list off Nominet, they won't allow it (hum bugs)

When I've done it I will PM you Mally, how do I decide who goes at the top of the list ?

It will be me when I get a tag, I'll still leave others on there because no one ever books with just 1 catcher anyway.

A bit off topic but I was letting a name drop and and DM renewed the domain before it went to suspended. Apparently they had a buyer lined up!

Don't know if this is normal with registrars but seems a bit unfair to me.
