Reported so many since I've been a member they should make me a moderator!

People are doing it because the link juice given to signature links, which eventually means the search engines will discount them or Admin will stop them / charge.

It is a shame as many people contribute to the forum and it is a little something to give back but you always get someone spoiling it.

I personally think vetting each new registration would be a good idea, such as asking what domains they own or their business history to check them out. Spammers won't bother trying to flood the forum if they have to "apply" instead of automatically registering.

They try their best to build links via wordpress. Since it's automated it doesn't take them much time. The use of Akismet is definately necessary these days.

Like fabster said, akismet or similar is pretty essential. I started a blog the other day for a friend and already they have had to kill off 300 spams :) I just hopped on and installed akismet for her!

I think they use scripts. Pick some keywords and add some generic comment and hope for the best. Even if only 0.01% get through, that's still XX new links is probably the way they see it.

I don't think it will help them though.

    Damn annoying either way !

Yep, that's usually the way they do it. Alot of crappy tools out there one can use for such things.

Use Akismet ,it really works .Also using a captcha plugin is an addon to help cutting out spam.

It is a numbers game. Even though 95% of blogs will block the comments, 5% won't. It does not help that there are fairly cheap tools out there to automate the process.

What's worse is, I'm so fed up I'm about to stop allowing ping/trackbacks it is getting so annoying all these rss burners that re-publish a portion of my posts then link to them hoping I approve so they get a link on my site.

I appreciate when I get a real ping/trackback from a friend or colleague that mentions my post but those are few compared to the onslaught of content scraping feedburners that are pinging my posts. :-x
