Great to see a TV advert today using a prime UK generic like Watches.co.uk

The website itself seems poor. With such a great domain you would think they could do better on the design front.

Agreed, but it's still better than the site they had 18months ago. This reminds me of an old PhpNuke site!

They're advertising on tv now? I know they've been running ads for years in car magazines etc.

I wonder what price the owner would need to part with the domain - not the business or website, just the domain. Does anyone here run a domain blog, they could be good for an interview?

Is it expensive to advertise on Dave?

To be honest, you would need to speak with John who owns the domain and financial side of things, I look after the search side of things and website :)

Thanks for welcoming me as a member.

Your right about the website, it's got to one of the most ridiculously designed sites i've seen, there is no focal point, it's just confusing, IMO I would have sorted the site out before I started adversting it on TV.....sorry:roll:

    Welcome to the forum!

Lots of respect for having your ear to the ground. Go speak to John and tell him with a domain worth that much and an advertising campaign to match he should be willing to invest in a proper site. :)

I do hear you, but must add we do have very positive feedback about the site also. I will be aiming for something like www.wristwatches.co.uk which is also part of the same group. As with all of these things, it does take time and alot of careful planning.

Probably not the best time to be updating at site near Christmas. Hopefully, near End of Q1 2011.

Any feature requests would be most welcome, I'll do my upmost to make sure we include them.

Ah you're doing it in house? Harder to justify outsourcing then.

What I would say, since you have the programming down well, is outsource to a designer. Maybe use 99designs.com or something, could be a good idea :)

Definitely lots of room for improvement design-wise, but what really matters is if it is converting visitors into buyers.

Presumably it is doing this is in the sort of numbers that justify advertising on TV. If it isn't, the owners obviously have money to burn.

Even if the numbers are good, I would still recommend split testing a more visitor-friendly design to see if the numbers can be made even better.

Sorry but IMO wristwatches looks dated and badly designed also,

    Why:

No obvious color pallette or identity.
    Looks dated
Layout is messy, too much going on, nothing to focus on.
Body BG image looks like bottle tops.
Pages (mens watches, ladies watches) take too long to load because the ammount of content on the page.

I agree with Ashton , outsource your design, in the long run you will make the money you spend back 10 fold, personally I would not purchase expensive items from a site that looked like that.

    I know you didn't ask for a site review, but I can't help myself.

Who did you get the positive site feedback from because I can guarentee if you posted either of those on a design forum and asked for feedback they would rip your head off and throw it the shredder!

I appreciate your honesty on the designs for both sites. I'll give 99designs a go, would be keen to see what they can do on the design side, Its one area we are definitely not the specialists at. :)

On a positive note, hopefully we satisfy on the watches sides of things :) it's what we take pride in.

Appreciate the honesty on the design side of things, will give 99designs ago, keen too see what they can do. Am very keen to start testing split a/b and multi-variant, again it's the time. Will be a must for 2011.

On another note, hopefully we satisfy on the watches side of things, it's one area we do take pride in. :)

99designs.com, potential to get designs from many designers and we pay for the best one, sounds like exactly what we need. Thanks all, would be keen to get your votes on a potential design one we have something up. :)
