I caught this on the news about top providers agreeing in principal to the banning of adult websites unless they are asked for by the user in writing.

If this does actually happen, I wonder what percentage of those who currently view porn sites will actually contact their provider to have them switched back on.

Now this is going to play havoc with the traffic for my UK adult domain

I was just about to post about this, the precedent is very worrying. Why should people have to opt in for something, why don't people opt out. I don't care too much about adult content being filtered but what's next? Will Wikileaks be listed under adult content?

Can these filters even work? What happens if it filters out someone legitamate site that is not adult content related, who do you appeal to?

Is someone sitting there going through each site that goes on the filter list?

Very very worrying in my opinion. This has very little to do with adult content, it seems that the authorities want to creat a list which is automatically filtered at the click of a button.

I didn't really catch the full story on it, but what came to my mind is are they going to have to create a law for this to happen, and if so is this the trick to get people to back the law so once its in they can start going China on us.

The providers surely must put it across that it has to be an opt out agreement, its unfair on those who have invested heavily into UK adult domains, because all of a sudden they will get very little UK traffic if its a case of switching it off and then 1 by 1 switching it back on.

Thats the exact problem they will face, what do you class as adult content, what if the owner of a nonadult domain suddenly decides to turn it into an adult site, its ridiculous.

Pop the content behind a login and who can tell without having in-line content analysis?

Sounds like another dumb politician making more promises they can't keep!

I take it this includes online sex toy shops ( damn ! )

People are really going to contact their provider to ask for porn, my payg phone requires me to go to the 3 shop with id just so I can get on legitimate sites but I havn't done it because you could look a bit of a t**t

Not a problem mate, will fire you one over this week or next. My fault bit behind on the invoices being sent.

Yep guess you guys are right, I guess it is totally unworkable, I just hope they realise that before trying to implement it, I don't think it has stopped them too many times before.
