I set up a site a few days ago but I'm not sure when to add adsense to it (in terms of getting accepted by Google as opposed to number of visitors to make it worthwhile).

It's only a small WordPress website with a few entries. I had a quick scan of their terms but just saw something about sites in specific languages have to be more than 3 months old.

Thoughts on length of time/number of blog entries I should have before applying? Or tips for getting accepted? I've worked with adsense before but only on sites that were several years old.

If you already have an Adsense account, you don't have to ask for permission to add banners to additional sites. You can just go right ahead. As far as I'm aware, since Google has accepted you to the programme, they will then automatically accept all future sites you put ads on (though you are still going to be subject to their quality guidelines i.e. putting your ads on an inappropriate site could get you banned).

Relevant aside: if you find your content is getting scraped a lot by "undesirable" sites, it's worth considering whether you want to explicitly list every URL you're authorising to run "your" ads within your Adsense console. That way, if a spammy site grabs your content wholesale, including your Adsense code (it does happen) you won't be penalised no matter how lousy the site they pop it on is...

Thanks Edwin. I did have an adsense account accepted about 6 or so years ago, but I believe it was suspended because I wasn't running the ads on every single page of my site. Guess it's easier to just try and dig out the old details.

Thanks Rob, that will make me be a lot more picky about what I add.

Finally found my details, I set it up before Google accounts were required and it's just told me to update my adsense login to a Google account lol.

I'm suppose to that but havn't bothered, I find it annoying, they're even doing it on Youtube now, I have always used Yahoo for personal mail and a pop3 account for business.

I think it's best to add adsense once you have plenty of relevant content and your site has been getting indexed.

Ps. Don't forget to ad your privacy policy page or you will get a telling off from Google :(
