I have found a domain I'd like and is showing up as
I'm guess they have given it up and is just sitting there.

Hows best to go about registering it or taking it over?

    Thanks

    Andy

Same way as any other domain name. Dropcatch or contact owner. You just know that this isn't going to be renewed, although the owner can still change their mind.

I've had similar domains on my radar in the past (and one on my radar now).
My advice is that just because the status is "no longer required" don't get too excited (like I did). The reality may be that they want it or are in the process of selling/transferring it.

I contacted the registrants in these cases and watched as the domains were either renewed or transferred to new owners.

In fact I think that some companies use this status as a way to document the removal of a domain from their accounts (giving them an out/reason to transfer the domain).

Not getting too excited ;) as it would drop 2013 and would guess these guys aint daft.

Just wondered if their was a way to approach Nominet to say hey I'll have it.

    Thanks for your responses anyways.

yes and nominet would say a polite p**s off ,it means nothing when it says no longer required....it could mean a number of things ,it is just like a number of people on these boards have a domain enter a suspended state and renew it at the last minute...same old culprits and it gets very booooorrrriiingg..

i should look through the prss and see if they hold other domains and put your sherlock holmes hat on

I see the domain is owned by COUNTYWeb Ltd, I'm pretty sure that company has gone under, they owned a lot of geo related domains, and over the last year they were marked as no longer required and dropped when drop day came.

Butterfly Hotels Ltd is in administration, although their website at ButterflyHotels.co.uk is still active.

Both domains were last updated in February according to WHOIS, so I think having 'no longer required' will be an error and that it won't be dropping.

No, it's not in a dissolved state.

The domain's registrant is Butterfly Hotels Ltd, and they are in administration (02/11).

CountyWeb Ltd has dissolved however, but they are only listed under the registrant address.
