    Hi,
I keep seeing people on here asking for link swaps etc, so I wanted to give something back to the forum and give you an idea how you can get zillions of links for free (well, nearly for free anyway).

I've used this for one of my sites, Google webmasters tools shows that site as having over 150,000 backlinks.

It's easy - all you do is look at your Wordpress site, or someone elses, or some other free CMS system that people use, think about some functionality that would be really useful, and create a plug in (or equivalent) for it.

Don't know anything about creating plugins?

No problem. All you do is put the job on Freelancer or equivalent and some dude in India or similar will create it for you for about £30.

In the plugin you get them to add a link to your site (which can be encoded in base 64 or similar so people can't easily remove it), and when people download and use it, you have a link from their site.

Upload it to the Wordpress plugins database and you should get loads of downloads.

I have a website where people can download my plugin for free (which I realised today hasn't been working for over 6 months and I've still got 150,000 links from it), and a premium paid for no-link version too.

So you have the opportunity to get your money back if you so desire, and to get links too.

Most people want the free version, so you'll get lots of links.

Think about all of the applications you could help people with - mortgage/loan/etc calculators, widgets for just about anthing you can think of - the list is endless.

Just created a new one (cost £35) and will be promoting it soon - thought people might be interested in trying this, it's the lazy mans way to getting lots of links.

Would be interested in seeing your plugin :) A similar method for getting 'zillions' of links (related ones in most cases) is wordpress template sponsorship - costs anywhere between $10 / $500 depending on the quality of the design & distribution network.

This remembers me of contact form and privacy plugins that I use on all my wordpress blogs which gives a credit link to the plugin owner. A very nice way to acquire numerous backlinks. However, all links won't be quality or related to your niche but a link is a link. worth the effort.

Very true. Just as sponsoring a poker wordpress theme should bring in poker backlinks :)

Have you ever actually tried this?

As if you've done it any time in the last couple of years, you'll realise WP don't allow forced embedded links. If you somehow manage to sneak one in anyway, It'll get 100's of spam reports and be deleted within half a day.

In theory what you're suggesting sounds good - in real life its a lot of horse shit.

I have seen loads of plugins with embedded links though. I'm not sure how encoded they are as I have never tried to remove one.

It is mostly premium plugins that have links with them (you can opt out of most). On the other hand template footer links if encrypted properly are a right hassle to remove ;)

You can't add them to the WP plugin directory. You can release them anywhere else you like and obviously put what you like in them, but you definitely can't list them in the directory.

If you learn to read you'll see that I say I have it on a website where people can buy a premium no link version, or the free one with the link.

Also as Ben says, there are loads of plugins you can download from wordpress that have links embedded, so no it isn't horse shit.

Quite why you need to post in such a *********** manner is beyond me.

You can turn the link off. That's the rule if you want to be able to list it in the Plugins Directory.

Although there's probably plenty older plugin that don't have this... A new one wouldn't get away with it I don't think. Pretty sure even a massive plugin called nRelate had to resubmit with a removable-link version recently.

So all you do is submit to wordpress a very basic version of the plugin with limited functionality and no link, and offer people who download it a free version with lots more functionality if they download the one with the link in it from your own website.

Whatever you do people can remove the link if they want to, but most people don't have the knowledge and/or can't be bothered.
