I have recently added two subdomains on my website. I have been dismayed to find that my service provider (Easyspace) cannot provide me with web stats for these subdomains. Apparently this is because my website is on a shared hosting platform and the necessary changes to allow web stats for subdomains would involve too much downtime and disruption to other users. Is this a common feature of shared hosting platforms or just some?

DTA: Thanks for the suggestion about Google Analytics. I've just been reading up about GA. I am not yet entirely sure about allowing third-party access like this,. but it is worth considering.

Allowing third party access? Google has all that info anyway. Adding Google Analytics just allows you to see it.

All a stats tool really does is take the data already on the server and display it in a nice way - much nicer than the usual webalizer/awstats you'll get on most servers.

Have a look at statcounter.com also, I find it much more user friendly than analytics.

Awstats on shared hosting at Krystal shows subdomain stats fine.

    Thank you

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions - they were very helpful.
I'm now trying out Google Analytics on two of my subdomains and I will check out the other possibilities suggested.
